John McBride passes at 86

HOPKINTON – John R. McBride, 86, died November 1, 2023 surrounded by family. He was the husband of Carol A. (McManus) McBride, whom he was married to for 62 years.  Born in Milford, MA he was the son of George J. and Dorothy (McKinnon) McBride formerly of Hopkinton, MA.

A long-time Hopkinton resident, he graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1957 where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball and was enshrined in the Hopkinton High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

He worked for 35 years at New England Power Company, taking early retirement at age 55 in 1992.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Taking up golf later in life, he excelled, winning two Club Championships and one Senior Club Championship. A member of Highfields Country Club in Grafton, MA – he shot his age on a numerous occasions when he turned 73.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Christine A. O’Brien and her husband Thomas of Hopkinton, John R. McBride and his partner Christine A. Forte of Hopkinton, Steven J. McBride and his wife Deborah of Hopkinton, Karen E. Gibson and her husband Joshua of Northbridge, and 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He also leaves two brothers, George McBride of Hopkinton and J. Michael McBride of Dennis.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church in Hopkinton. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Hopkinton.  Calling hours at the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home are Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
