Eric Carty, the longtime director of Hopkinton’s Water & Sewer Department, stands with his team, ready to step down after four decades serving the town. He got his start in the ‘80s as a meter reader—just a kid, really—and worked his way up as Hopkinton ballooned from a small town of 6,000 to more than 18,000 people.
Over the years, Carty pushed the department into the modern era. He launched the town’s first website, digitized old infrastructure records, and rolled out water system upgrades that sped up emergency response.
He didn’t just handle the easy stuff, either. Carty led his crew through tough challenges, from tackling PFAS contamination head-on to wrestling with the town’s ongoing water supply issues.

Best of luck to Eric and his family…both for his dedication and accomplishments to the Town of Hopkinton…as well as his future endeavors…!!! A true gentleman and a real class act…!!!
