Today, HopNews received a copy of a letter sent to the Hopkinton Select Board signed by Hopkinton residents Charles and Mary Holden. We have reprinted it in its entirety.
>> RELATED: Local Resident Creates Petition for Brennan
Dear Hopkinton Select Board:
This letter is in support of reinstating Officer Tim Brennan on the Hopkinton Police force. I have known Tim for the entirety of our time living in Hopkinton, that being 22 years. Any and all interactions with Officer Brennan over these past 22 years have been nothing but positive. He is extremely professional, experienced, caring and he possesses a great demeanor in all of his dealings, including and especially with children. His presence and interaction has been calming and reassuring. His rapport with so many in this town speaks for itself. I believe him to be a role model for the younger officers joining the force.
Officer Brennan has admitted his wrongdoing with his violation of the policies. He has been disciplined by way of the 8 month leave and the very public reporting of the incidents. I strongly believe that disciplinary actions thus far are adequate enough for Officer Brennan. They’ve served as an example to others on the police force as to how to navigate such a situation in the future. As a townsperson, along with a large majority of others, I am 100% in support of Officer Brennan being reinstated.
Given the state of our police force at present, lack of officers and probable retirement of our police chief, we should be doing everything to preserve the great asset we already have in Officer Brennan. It would be a true loss for our town losing him. His excellent service prior to being cited with the violation should be testimony to why reinstating him is of dire necessity.
Sincerely,
Charles & Mary Holden, 110 Pond Street
Thank you writing such an excellent letter Mary and Chuck! I couldn’t agree more.
I 100% agree with you and thank you for writing this!! Hopefully it works and we have Tim back on the force!!

Beth, Clearly you have never worked in a police department. The current Chief and the pedophile are best buddies. The rape occurred when the Victim was a young teen. Brennan found out when the victim was a married mother and 30 yrs old. When a rape victim tells you not to say anything until she is ready are you supposed to tell on your Chief who would surely fire you? Yes and when she was ready Brennan testified and the rapist was indicted. Had Brennan told prior to the victim being ready you have no willing person to report the rape. Brennan did what he could to protect the victim however muddy it seems. Either way, the outcome would be the same, he will be fired, the buddy of the rapist will still be there Chief and all cops in they Town will be afraid to report anything.
We just want to state for the record that Jay Porter is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
You do not have all the correct facts – the news has failed to provide the full story. This is what happens when reporters do not get all the facts and only provide one side. This is fake news at its best.

Firing Sergent Brennan would be an injustice and a huge loss to the town. He has paid for his mistake over the past 8 months. Sergent Brennan has had an outstanding career with the exception of this incident. Everyone I know in town is in favor of him being reinstated. It is easy for some to think Sergent Brennan should be fired but they need to understand a couple of things. If Sergent Brennan reported this incident prior to the girl being ready to come forward this would have gone nowhere except Sergent Brennan receiving retribution from Deputy Chief Porter and possibly the Chief. Porter is known as a bully both in the department and the community. Anyone crossing him, or thinking of reporting him to the chief or select board, had to think very carefully before doing so. Sergent Brennan is not the criminal here. Porter was put on administrative leave and then allowed to retire with full pension. If sergeant Brennan is fired he will lose his career, his pension and his reputation will be damaged. A sense of proportion should be used here in deciding Sergent Brennan’s fate. I encourage the Select board to reinstate Sergent Brennan. I believe the majority of the town would be in agreement. I encourage anyone in support of Sergent Brennan to attend a Select board hearing concerning this on Tuesday night, January 16th at 5:00 p.m. at the Senior center
I have not seen the comments I’ve written in support of Sgt. Brennan on this feed or page. Is this a chronological thread of all comments submitted?
