Eversource Energy generously provided their third grant to Hopkinton Emergency Fund (HEF) to support our neighbors in need. The picture includes (from left): Nataraj Iyer (HEF), Stephanie Whelan (HEF), Jennifer Blake (HEF), Judith Weinthaler (HEF), Peter Bowman, Community Relations and Economic Development Specialist at Eversource MA at the Town Center to accept the check.
The Hopkinton Emergency Fund was established in 2017 in conjunction with our Community Partners: Project Just Because, Hopkinton Youth & Family Services, The Hopkinton Senior Center and St. Vincent de Paul. The Fund was started to address the need to support our neighbors with financial support that these Partners could not offer or cover sufficiently.
Support is available for clothing and household items, resource help, etc. but not money to pay emergency bills. Nearly five years later, the Fund has disbursed over $ 77,000 to Hopkinton families identified by our Partners.
The HEF grants help our Hopkinton neighbors with expenses resulting from unforseen circumstances such as illness, temporary unemployment, car repair delinquent child support, etc. We have helped many families avoid eviction or lose a job, sudden drop income, or inability to get to work due to lack of transportation.
The Fund’s mission is to provide temporary emergency financial support and a follow-up plan with community resources to establish financial stability in the future. We rely on funds from businesses, organizations and the generous support of Hopkinton residents who believe in our Mission to support those in need.
