The HHS Science Fair program is one of the largest and most successful programs in the state. This year Hopkinton had over 110 students participate in the high school program. Forty-nine of the projects competed at the school fair and 12 moved on to the Regional Fair at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Then on Friday, May 5, seven Hopkinton High teams competed at the State Fair at MIT.

The team of Dylan Striek, Rylee Blair, and Disha Mudenur took home the first place prize for their project Electrolytic Extraction of Dawsonite from Ocean Water: Efficient Saltwater Mineral Recovery through Electrolysis. With the win the team qualified for the International Science Fair in Dallas, TX next week. They also won the Pauline Lamarche Special Award for Excellence in Design.
The third place prize went to Srilakshmi Venkatesan for the project Utilizing Hypermagnesemia to Understand the Impact of Neuromuscular Blocking Agents on Caenorhabditis Elegans: A Safe Novel Automated Model for Paralytic Drug Testing.
Earning Honorable Mention was the project Chlorella vulgaris as a model for photobioreactor use in industrial carbon removal by Juliet Findlen. A special Mass Life Sciences – Trailblazer Award for Innovation in Life Sciences went to Necalli Vela-Garcia, Surya Raja-Amudhan, and Nithu Sridharan for their project PFAS Pollution and Its Effects on Daphnia Pulex: Implications for the Environment and Human Health.
