In a letter to parents, Hopkinton principal Evan Bishop shared that inclement weather required the school to move tomorrow’s graduation ceremony to the HHS Athletic Center. Further, each graduate is now limited to 6 guests.
The letter reads:
Dear Class of 2023 Students & Parents,
Given the potential for thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and the rest of the weekend not looking good either, we have decided to move the graduation ceremony indoors on Friday. The ceremony will begin at the same time (6 pm) but will take place in the athletic center of the high school. The doors will open up at 5 pm and there will be handicapped parking available in the visitor lot in front of the building. Graduates are expected to meet in the cafeteria at 5:15.
Although it may be tight, the good news is we still feel we can accommodate 6 guests per graduate indoors. However, we cannot accommodate more than 6 guests per senior. Families will need to check in with school officials as they enter the athletic center. We will be live streaming the ceremony in the high school auditorium for those interested or for those larger families, and of course, HCAM-Ed will be showing the ceremony live on Verizon channel 31, Comcast channel 96, or on youtube.com/hcamtv.
While we discussed waiting until tomorrow to make this decision, with requisite set-up time and preparation and many folks navigating graduation parties and family visiting from out of town, we wanted to let you know as soon as possible for planning purposes.
Prior to COVID, our ceremony was held indoors so we certainly have experience with it. A huge thanks to our amazing maintenance and custodial staff for their flexibility and efforts. I also appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this adjustment.
