On September 9, 2023 the Hopkinton Center for the Arts held their annual Celebrity Concert series. This is their largest fundraiser, and this year they hosted the legendary John Oates. The event was an incredible success, raising more than $73,000 to support the HCA and their mission to make the arts accessible to all.
Backstage, Oates graciously volunteered to spend a few minutes with us to share some of the highlights of his astonishingly successful career. Hall & Oates is the best selling musical duo in history, with a career spanning decades and touching generations. Oates has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In spite of his remarkable success, Oates remains utterly unpretentious and completely down to earth. He is a true musicians musician: where he plays doesn’t matter; it’s about creating a connection with his audience and bringing them on a musical journey through some of the most timeless songs in history.
Sad that he perpetuates the false notion that accordions are a detested instrument. Simple minds agree.
Excellent interview, well conducted. Interesting and harmonious conversation. The Host had Oates feeling right at home. I Loved the set, the vivid bright green backdrop with pop of purple drapes. Very pleasant. Encore! Looking forward to reading his book.
