A fire broke out in a home at 69 Hayward Street this morning, killing an older man and injuring a woman. Hopkinton Fire Department responded with mutual aid from Westborough, Milford, Ashland, Southborough and Upton.

Multiple neighbors called 911 around 1:00 AM. One victim, a senior male, was found in a hallway. Another victim, a senior female, was discovered in a bedroom. Both were removed from the home and taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

The man was pronounced dead at MRMC. The woman was transported to a Boston hospital for treatment of her injuries. Authorities have yet to release the names of the victims pending notification of their families.

A dog also perished in the blaze.

The home was built in or around 1925. Upon entry, firefighters noticed the house did not have working smoke alarms. The cause of the fire has not been determined but an investigation is underway in a joint operation between Hopkinton Fire Department, State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office
