After a brave battle with pancreatic cancer, lifelong Hopkinton resident Wayne Wright Merrifield, 72, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Monday, October 28, 2024. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Doris (Wright) and Stuart H. Merrifield.
A valued member of both the Wayside Players and Marlborough Players, Wayne brought his artistic vision to life through countless productions. His talent as a director shone brightly at the Marlborough and Hopkinton High Schools, where he fostered a love for the performing arts and inspired the students. He also enjoyed extensive overseas travel.
Wayne is survived by his siblings, Frank Merrifield and his wife, Dorothy, of Loganville, GA, Nancy Ring of Westborough, and Lois Hansen of Danvers. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great-nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers-in-law, David Ring and Dennis Hansen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 4th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 5th, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, or to a charity of one’s choice.
