Jim Cozzens, who has served as the Station Director of Hopkinton Community Access and Media (HCAM), was honored recently at HCAM’s 20th anniversary event for his commitment to community media. Cozzens was presented with the Michael J. Preite Award during the Annual Meeting.
The award recognizes Cozzens’ 20 years of service in local media and his many contributions to the community. HCAM involves people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds thanks to Cozzens’ introduction of new programs that attract a diverse cross-section of the Hopkinton community.
Among his recent initiatives is “Bragging Rights,” a new game show he is producing, which is specifically toward students. Partnered with host Sidhi Dhanda, this show resonates with an entity of HCAM that is working toward creating content for a larger youth engagement channel with the community.
At the May 2024 Annual Town Meeting, where the budget for HCAM was being debated, Peter Thomas of HopNews asked to have $50,000 added to the station’s funding, arguing that it’s essential for transparency in government. Note: the money was taken from the town’s free cash and approved 233—102, with just a simple majority required.
After the meeting, Cozzens said, “I feel I have the support of our community,” which points to how much Hopkinton residents value HCAM and the work of Cozzens in keeping a city channel of local information alive and active.
The Hopkinton community has taken notice of Cozzens’ leadership!
👍 Well done!
