Garland becomes Editor-in-Chief of HopNews

Published on

On September 1, 2024, longtime Hopkinton resident and frequent HopNews contributor, Paula Garland, assumed editorial control of HopNews and ownership of its parent company, Arch Publishing. Previous Editor-in-Chief Peter Thomas will remain on as a special correspondent.

HopNews was founded in 2003 by Robert Falcione, who ably steered the publication for more than two decades until December 2023, when it was purchased by Thomas. Under Thomas’ leadership, HopNews was overhauled and expanded into new mediums such as video storytelling and a regular podcast.

“I am excited to hand the reins over to Paula, who has shown herself to be a dogged pursuer of the truth and a capable storyteller,” said Thomas. “I am confident that under her leadership, HopNews will continue to be the reliable source of community journalism that our readers have grown to trust.”

Garland and her husband, Walter, have made their home in Hopkinton since 1998, and have been active members of the community, notably as a perennial volunteers for the B.A.A. Boston Marathon.

“Taking on the role of Editor in Chief at HopNews is a thrilling opportunity,” said Garland. “I’m excited to work with such a talented team and to continue delivering the quality journalism that our readers expect and deserve. I look forward to leading HopNews into its next chapter with a fresh perspective and a commitment to excellence.”
