On Friday, October 25th, football alumni from both Hopkinton High and Ashland High gathered for the first annual Centennial Classic, celebrating the historic Thanksgiving Day rivalry between the two teams.
A rivalry as old as dirt — between two towns that refuse to forget!
This year will mark the 100th game played on Thanksgiving Day, with the first matchup occurring in 1923. Notably, the games were not held in 1940 due to snow and in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Among the participants was Jerry Hanna, an alumnus from the Ashland High class of 1964, who was the oldest player in the tournament. Many of the golfers were second, third, and fourth-generation alumni from their respective towns, highlighting the deep-rooted connection to this rivalry.
Special thanks are extended to Jim Norton, Dave Hughes, Aubrey Doyle, along with the beautiful Shining Rock Golf Club, for organizing and hosting this unforgettable event!
Mark your calendars: Hopkinton will host Ashland at 10 AM on Thanksgiving Day for the landmark 100th game.
MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN!
