Run – Don’t Walk – to Deadville

Published on

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts and an undead army of volunteers have constructed an entire town at the YMCA on East Street in Hopkinton. No matter your age, Deadwoodville is a delight to visit. The set design is creative, the actors are superbly talented, and the entire production is incredibly clever.

Deadwoodville is a creepy, ominous, and scary community with gruesome oddities. During the tour of the ghastly town visitors will meet unwelcoming citizens and are carefully guided through the village of the living dead, complete with a farmer’s market, a toy store, a cafe, a library and more.

Deadwoodville is the creation of HCA Executive Director Kelly Grill and Marie Laskowski, and more than 75 dedicated volunteers have been working for months to build it. It is produced in collaboration with the Metrowest YMCA, who generously agreed to host the spooky town at their outdoor center at 45 East Street.

Tomorrow is the last day to visit the town, and the HopNews team highly recommends a visit. Everyone in our party enjoyed the experience; we laughed a lot and even felt a little spooked. For those planning to attend Special Town Meeting on November 13, you won’t want to miss Deadwoodville’s take on it; Their approach to tax increases is novel.

The event runs all three days, and tickets are required. While Deadwoodville is recommended for children ages 10 and up, the HCA has set aside a time slot on Sunday, October 29 for “not so scary” version of the town for younger kids.
