On Saturday night, under the lights in Walpole, the Hopkinton High School Boys soccer team competed for the Division 2 State Championship against Easton’s Oliver Ames.

Hopkinton fans packed the stands to see their team go for their first state title. It was a back and forth match, with 5 goals scored in the second half. Hopkinton led until the 80th minute, when Oliver Ames tied it up. Oliver Ames quickly scored another goal in stoppage time to take the state title home.

“It was a great game and an even better season,” said Hopkinton Junior Carlos Henkle. That was the attitude of all the Hopkinton players after the game. The Seniors played a great farewell game with goals from captains Sean Golembiewski and Peter DeMichele. Coach Garrett Sawyer is optimistic for next season as Hopkinton looks to make another run at the state title.
