This week’s Pet of the Week is a twofer!
Meet Chewie and Kobie — two boxer brothers by bond if not by blood, reigning kings of Lake Maspenock, and quite possibly the most entertaining duo on the water.
Chewie, the elder statesman at 6 years old, is what you might call a “big personality in an even bigger body.” This gentle giant has somehow convinced himself that he is, in fact, a lapdog. He’s like a beanbag chair, but warmer and with opinions.
And opinions he has! Chewie is a vocal soul, fluent in the ancient and expressive language of “woo-woos.” His vocabulary is, by all accounts, extensive. He doesn’t just participate in family conversations — he leads them.
When he’s not holding court from his “place,” Chewie is a full-on water sports enthusiast. Paddleboard? He’s on it. Kayak? Absolutely. Floating foam mat? That’s basically his office. The lake isn’t just a backdrop for Chewie — it’s his kingdom.
One glorious day, everything changed!

Kobie arrived.
If Chewie could have planned the best day of his entire life, it would have looked exactly like that moment. He was, by all witness accounts, over the moon. This big, goofy, beanbag of a dog took one look at the tiny newcomer and immediately appointed himself Kobie’s protector, teacher, and biggest fan.
Now Kobie, who just turned 1 and shares his big brother’s birthday, has a full-time mentor following him around with the devoted energy of a new parent. Chewie dotes on him the way a mom hovers over her newborn — except louder, and with more personality.
Together, these two Bad Boys of Maspenock are living their absolute best lives — one paddleboard ride, one big ‘ole snuggle, and one very enthusiastic conversation at a time. 🐾
