LTE: Support of Adaptive Playground

by | May 2, 2025 | Opinion, Politics | 2 comments

As May 5th approaches, Hopkinton has a few key decisions to make. I am asking the community to please support the Adaptive Playground Project.

Adding an adaptive playground to promote accessibility, inclusion, and play opportunities for children of all abilities will benefit the Hopkinton community. Ensuring all families have a space where they are comfortable outside will foster the community spirit that we have grown accustomed to in Hopkinton.

Growing up on Elm Street, I spent countless hours at the Elmwood School playground. As the youngest in a family of four, my family organized various games with neighbors and kids from all over town to play with us.

The playground fostered a sense of creativity and kept us safe. More importantly, it kept us outside on nice days. Additionally, it created a sense of community. Having environments that enable families to bond is critical for our town as we grow.

I understand there are concerns around the project being at the school, which will limit access during school hours. From my experience growing up in town, we did not feel limited by the playground being at Elmwood or Center School. Instead, it brought a deeper connection to the school. Coming from a family that has been a part of the schools with my Grandfather being a math teacher, football coach, and athletic director, I think fostering that connection is critical.

Please Vote on May 19

The adaptive playground project ensures that all kids and families can bond in an inclusive space. I am concerned about voter turnout both at the Annual Town Meeting and on Election Day this year.

If we don’t have enough attendance, this important measure will not pass. So my ask to the residents of Hopkinton is to show up and make your voice heard. Mark your calendars for May 5th and May 19th!

I am running for the Select Board. If you’d like to contact me, please email me at JeffDoyleforSelectBoard@gmail.com.

I look forward to getting to know you better and answering any questions you have about the issues facing the town of Hopkinton!

I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS AS IT WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE FOR HANDICAPPED CHILDREN DURING THE DAY IF IT IS LOCATED AT A SCHOOL

I also do not support it. Jeff, I understand you’re new to ATM & voting in town but last year we approved a whole new school and a half of a school just last year. The school can wait on this project. IF it were to be at EMC park I could get behind it. We need to trim the fat and the schools is where most of our taxes go. This is just not the time to hit tax payers up for wants.
