Ted Twinney and his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Taback, co-founded Start Line Brewing Company in 2016. While building their business, one of their foundational pillars was being involved with the community and contributing to charity. Although Jeffrey has since retired and moved away, Twinney is still running the business, and the brewery’s commitment to these values remains strong.

As they looked around during their first year, they observed the significance of the marathon footprint in this area. “We began planning ways to support the race, assist Hopkinton, gain some recognition, and make a charitable donation,” said Twinney.
Tim Kilduff and the 26.2 Foundation
Through the Chamber of Commerce, they met Tim Kilduff. As they learned more about his ambitious plans for the International Marathon Center, they discussed becoming a corporate sponsor of the 26.2 Foundation. They saw the project as a dynamic and transformative initiative that would greatly benefit Hopkinton.
In 2018, Start Line Brewing introduced a limited-edition Marathoner IPA to support and raise awareness for the 26.2 Foundation. This annual tradition continues, with each year’s release honoring an individual or theme embodying the marathon spirit. The 2025 edition salutes the thousands of volunteers who make the Boston Marathon possible.

The Marathoner IPA, available exclusively at the brewery, typically sells out within weeks. Previous releases have honored notable figures and causes, including Wayde Marshall, Bobbi Gibb, Tim Kilduff, and the Hoyt Foundation.
Start Line’s partnership with the 26.2 Foundation extends beyond the special beer release. They sell co-branded merchandise year-round, with net proceeds benefiting the Foundation, and host fundraisers and recognition events.
Visitors to Start Line Brewing can find various 26.2 Foundation-related items, including postcards and silicone pint glasses (Silly Pints) featuring both the Start Line and the Boston Marathon logos in the marathon colors. The brewery also offers a range of high-quality, regularly updated merchandise, including t-shirts, tanks, and hoodies.

2025 Marathon Spectacular
Join Start Line Brewing on Marathon Monday, April 21st, for the Marathon Spectacular party, featuring The Speakeasies’ energetic blend of blues, funk, and soul.
The event runs from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., with doors opening at 1:30 P.M. Tickets are required, and they are priced at $20 for adults and $10 for youth.
Proceeds benefit the 26.2 Foundation. Enjoy a special food menu and limited seating.
