Please be advised that the Water Department is requesting your assistance in maintaining access to the town’s 864 fire hydrants for the safety and protection of everyone in our community. Please protect your neighborhood by keeping fire hydrants clear.
During winter storms, hydrants can become buried by snow. If there is a fire hydrant near your home, please help keep it visible and accessible so the Fire Department can use it quickly in an emergency.
Precious seconds can be lost locating a hydrant or removing snow, and those seconds can make a critical difference. Your help plays an important role in keeping your neighborhood safe.
Please remember that burying a fire hydrant through shoveling, plowing, or snow blowing creates a serious fire safety hazard. This practice is prohibited under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 148, Section 27B, and may result in a fine.
The Water and Fire Departments thank you for your cooperation and continued support in maintaining public safety.
Sincerely,
Water Department
