An intense storm blew through New England today, hammering Hopkinton and the Metrowest region, downing trees and power lines and flooding roads. Police, Fire, and the Department of Public Works fielded several calls from homeowners and motorists reporting hazards. According to Acting Fire Chief Gary Daugherty, the Fire Department alone fielded 43 calls in a 24 hour period, and was onsite to help homeowners with downed trees and flooded basements.

As of 3:30 PM, Eversource registered 1,324 customers in Hopkinton without power. The National Weather Service reported a peak wind gust of 52 mph in Worcester and more than 1.6 inches of rainfall.

The storm is expected to move out overnight, with a calm and mostly sunny week forecasted. While the storm is present, drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution on the roads.
