HOPKINTON — Gone in minutes. According to the GoFundMe launched for the family, the fire broke out in the kitchen of 50 Hayward Street at approximately 10:45 P.M. on March 22. Within 10 minutes, the entire house was engulfed. Gabriel and Karina Kenupe — and their dog, Thor — escaped with their lives. The fire destroyed everything else.
They Need Our Support
Neighbor Parker Happ, a Hopkinton Planning Board member, created the GoFundMe. Karina Kenupe joined as a co-organizer. The campaign describes the couple simply. Karina works as a house cleaner. Gabriel is currently looking for work as a mechanic. Neighbors know the couple for their generosity.
“Both are incredibly lovely people who have always opened their hearts and home to help family members and neighbors in need,” the campaign page reads. Now they are the ones who need help.
Donations Are Climbing
As of Thursday, 51 donors had contributed $4,070 toward a $6,000 goal. The Lake Maspenock Preservation Association and the John Warren Masonic Lodge have both pledged contributions. The funds will go toward temporary housing, clothing, food, and daily essentials. Thor also lost everything — his bed, his toys, and his supplies. The couple is currently staying with family.

The American Red Cross continues to assist the family. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Fire Marshal unit.
