A Little History
A beloved Hopkinton landmark is entering a new era. Cornell’s Irish Pub, proudly serving the community since 1964, has officially been sold by Ellen & Colm Scanlon to new owners Erin & Ryan Trites and Brad & Teri Kaye.
Founded by the late Edward Cornell, Cornell’s quickly became a cherished neighborhood gathering spot known for its warm atmosphere, hearty meals, and strong sense of community. In 1984, Edward’s son, the late Robert Cornell, took over the family business, continuing its proud tradition for nearly three decades. In 2012, the Scanlons purchased the pub, ensuring the Cornell legacy remained strong in the heart of Hopkinton.
For the past 13 years, the Scanlons have been the heart and soul of Cornell’s, preserving its identity while bringing their own passion and charm to the pub.
“It has truly been a privilege to be part of something so special,” said Ellen. “Cornell’s has always been more than a pub—it’s a place where memories are made. We’re confident Erin, Ryan, Brad, and Teri will continue that spirit for years to come.”
New Era
The new owners, all with deep local ties, are eager to honor the pub’s legacy while ushering in a new generation of community hospitality. “We’re humbled and excited to carry on Cornell’s tradition,” said Erin Trites. “This is a place with heart, history, and a loyal community—we’re honored to become part of its story.”
Cornell’s Irish Pub will remain open throughout the transition with the same friendly service, while guests can expect thoughtful updates in the coming months.
