Hopkinton Deputy Police Chief Charged with Rape of a Child

by | May 1, 2023 | News

On Friday, a Middlesex County grand jury indicted former Hopkinton Deputy Police Chief John Porter on three counts of child rape. The alleged incident took place in connection with an assault of a student when Porter was Hopkinton’s School Resource Officer. He was the SRO from 1998 – 2005.

Porter, 54, has been on administrative leave with full pay and benefits pending the outcome of the investigation. He announced his intention to retire from the police department on Friday, and the town accepted his resignation.

According to Middlesex County DA Marian Ryan, the student was 15 years old at the time. The assaults, which took place in 2004 and 2005, did not happen on school grounds.

Porter has not been formally arraigned and thus has not entered a formal plea.

In a written statement, Town Manager Norman Khumalo and Police Chief Joseph Bennett said “We are deeply disturbed and troubled by these accusations. These alleged crimes have no place in our community or anywhere else, and we extend our sympathies to the victim. The Hopkinton Police Department continues to cooperate fully with the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.”

He retired. Still eligible for his pension and benefits. He’s married and had two young children during the time of the incident as well – a son and daughter.

This guy has always been a slimy piece of garbage and HPD has always covered his ass. Feel terrible for the victim but glad to see this piece of shit is finally out in the open.

He should not be able to retire. Stand up and do what’s right here, Hopkinton PD! What a disgrace to our town this is, and so disturbing

Retired? With pension and full benefits? Fire him fire him fire him. Scum deserves to be behind bars for the rest of his life, hopefully that happens. Town so mum since the investigation started, disappointed with town officials

This guy should have been fired August ‘22 rather than lauded..HPD should stop protecting its own over taxpayers. They knew and covered him-fire the slime… he was always a punk with a huge ego

What is up with this town?? There was another sexual assault involving a minor with the owner of Hiller’s Pizza. I don’t know if it’s still safe to have a teenage daughter growing up in this town anymore..

You know… I do not know anything about this and I have not had many positive experiences with this guy but in this country, your innocent until proven guilty. Everyone deserves the right to defend themselves and be heard in front of a jury of their peers. If he is guilty, then yes…. lock him up and throw away the keys… the woman should get his pension which I know isn’t how it works… and she should sue the town potentially and Porter civilly… Lets not forget though… that President Trump is being a accused of rape years after… President Biden is accused by Tara Reade of sexual assault that was hardly reported on and President Clinton had tons of scandals. Anyone can accuse anyone . I for one like most of you will start from a position of believing this potentially young defenseless girl. These comments are crazy… is Anonymous comparing a speeding ticket a warning when they are humming down a street with a huge hill with no sidewalk where kids use to walk to school or ride bikes up the hill… (granted… it could be the ash that is the extension of chestnut but most people don’t consider that Ash really) Tim questioning whether the town is safe – well Tim… check out the crime statistic and go from there… And Ace…. let me guess… wicked cool in high school… smoked heaters at the Wall… and are now mad at the world… Your biggest regret is the TAP closing followed by the Dynasty Buffet taking away the All you can eat as a “To Go” option as you dribbled pork fried rice out to your car. Yeah…. Yeah…. We got a good crew of Police officers in town… many grew up here… Also… you know you can pay people online to identify anonymous posters who comment…. hmmmm

Does anyone know the definition of ‘schadenfreude’? Sounds like a lot of it in little ol’ Hopkinton. Who’da thunk it?
