On Monday, December 5, volunteers from Faith Community Church of Hopkinton made a substantial donation to Project Just Because. In November, FCCH and PJB launched a program to purchase gifts for local families in need. They had a lofty goal: to cover at least 205 families.

Today they donated more than 2,500 presents for 500 children and 205 families.

“I am constantly amazed at the way God does something extraordinary through the generosity of people who love to bless others,” said Lead Pastor Mike Laurence.

The drive began in early November, when the church asked its members to sign up to sponsor a local family this season. The response was overwhelming; within days more than 65% of the families were sponsored. Each sponsor was given a list of items that families had requested anonymously. The ages of children ranged from 8 months to 17 years old. There were a variety of gifts requested, from warm winter clothes, to toys and games, and even a weight set.

Jim Tracy and Sharon Ayande were part of the team of volunteers at the church that helped organize the drive. Jim helped with the check-in process and quality control, while Sharon was on the team that encouraged sponsors to sign up. Each bag was labeled for a family, with some families receiving multiple bags to ensure every child in the family had a gift to open this holiday season.
