Florida Man Charged with Human Trafficking

February 6, 2018 -- Members of the Massachusetts State Police High Risk Victims Unit and Woburn Police officers today arrested a Florida man who allegedly came to Massachusetts to make contact with and photograph a woman he planned to traffic for sex.

KENDALL CRAWLEY, 46, of Lake Mary, Florida, is charged with human trafficking. He is being booked at the Woburn Police Station and will be arraigned in Woburn District Court, most likely tomorrow.

CRAWLEY was arrested after Troopers assigned to the High Risk Victims Unit developed information that he allegedly trafficked women for sex. In an investigation that included an undercover operation, CRAWLEY allegedly arranged to go to a hotel in Woburn this afternoon for the purpose of meeting and photographing someone he thought would work as a prostitute for him. The investigation suggests that CRAWLEY intended to traffic the woman for sex through online sites.

At approximately 3 p.m. today, when CRAWLEY arrived at the hotel, the name of which is not being disclosed, he was arrested by Troopers and officers without incident. The investigation into CRAWLEY is ongoing. No further information about his arrest is being released at this time.

The Massachusetts State Police High Risk Victims Unit conducts investigations into human traffickers and aims to connect victims with resources to help them. The unit conducts investigations on its own and in partnership with local police departments.

Mary is survived by her husband Michael and her three children, Mikala, Cooper and Calli. Mary gave countless hours to the Hopkinton Basketball Association where, in addition to occupying various board positions, she coached all three of her children in their recreation and travel leagues for many years. She will be remembered by her children, as well as the many dozens of other kids she coached, as an energetic, positive role model on and off the court, teaching kids as much about how to be good people as well as to be good teammates and players.

100th anniversary of the 1918 Military Relay

As part of the 2018 Boston Marathon, the Boston Athletic Association will celebrate “A Year of Service.” Among the events to take place will be the Boston Marathon Military Relay, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Military Relay. In 1918, the traditional running of the Boston Marathon was not able to occur due to the expanded role of the United States in World War One. Instead, teams of uniformed sailors and soldiers passed a baton along the length of the Boston Marathon course, and the annual nature of the race was preserved. The 2018 Military Relay will be a relay of military-associated people representing both the various branches of service and the cities and towns along the marathon route in something of a recreation of the 1918 Boston Marathon.

The Boston Athletic Association would appreciate your assistance in making the Community aware of the 2018 Boston Marathon Military Relay. Please note we are looking for people who are associated with the military and have a strong tie to one of the eight Cities and Towns along the Boston Marathon route.

The application form can be found here: https://goo.gl/zz9X5y  Please share this application with anyone who you think would be a good candidate to participate in this special event.

All applications are due to susan.treut@gmail.com  by midnight Eastern time on February 7. The Boston Athletic Association will review all applications and announce the relay team in late February.

Where in the World is Dave McGillivray?

Boston Marathon race director and renowned endurance athlete headed to Dubai as part of globetrotting team running seven marathons in seven days across all seven continents

PERTH, Australia (February 1, 2018) – Dave McGillivray, race director of the B.A.A. Boston Marathon and owner of DMSE Sports, is headed to Dubai, having just completed the third leg of the World Marathon Challenge in Perth, Australia – still on target to complete seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.

The 63-year-old Medford, Mass., native is running as a member of a team called “Hold the Plane,” assembled by David Samson, former President of the Miami Marlins major league baseball team. The group is comprised of 16 runners chosen by Samson to join him on this epic athletic challenge and will benefit various charities.

McGillivray, a renowned endurance athlete, philanthropist and motivational speaker who now lives in North Andover, Mass., is running on behalf of Team MR8 to raise money for the Martin Richard Foundation.

This is the fourth year for the annual World Marathon Challenge®, an epic, grueling competition that requires participants to complete a standard 26.2-mile (42.2 km) marathon distance in each of the seven continents around the globe within 168 hours, or seven days. A total of 55 runners – with McGillivray one of just five who are age 60+ – accepted the challenge this year, up from 33 runners in 2017. The event began with 12 runners in 2015.

The clock started on Jan. 30 in the Antarctic Circle when the athletes ran a marathon on mainland Antarctica. The final marathon takes place on Feb. 5 in the U.S. in Miami. The competitors are flying by charter plane to each marathon location. Each marathon must be completed in under eight hours. The global schedule began in Novo (Antarctica), followed by Cape Town (Africa), Perth (Australia), Dubai (Asia), Lisbon (Europe), Cartagena (South America) before ending in Miami (North America). Once complete, participants will have run 183 miles (295 km) over the seven-day period and spent about 48 hours in the air.

More info on the team can be found on its website at www.777marathon.com  or http://www.worldmarathonchallenge.com/ . The team’s progress can also be followed at https://www.facebook.com/theworldmarathonchallenge  or the DMSE Sports Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/DMSESports/ .

UPDATE

Below is a joint release from the Hopkinton Police and the Hopkinton Public School Department:

Ammunition Found in High School Triggers Early Release

February 1, 2018 -- A single round of ammunition was found in a common area at the High School. This triggered the pre-established crisis response protocol.  Students and Staff sheltered in place while the Early Release process was activated.

Hopkinton Police responded and provided security through the process and Dogs from the Massachusetts State Police, Environmental Police, Worcester Police and W.P.I. were brought in to assist in the search of the entire school. The Hopkinton Fire Department was mobilized and assisted throughout.

After a thorough search of the school no weapons or additional ammunition were found.  We have no reason to believe that a weapon was actually on school grounds.  The Hopkinton Police Department and the Hopkinton School Department takes every incident or threat as serious.

This incident demonstrates the value of preplanning.  The coordinated efforts of the Crisis Response Team allowed for security protocols to be implemented and the efficient activation of the Early Release process.

    Dear Hopkinton School Community,

We are writing to follow up on the communication sent earlier today to the High School parents. School officials at the High School were notified this morning that a single round of ammunition was found in a common area of the school.

This triggered the pre-established Crisis Response protocol. Public Safety Officials and the High School's Crisis Response Team were convened immediately to assess the threat and determine a plan of action for the district.  Students and staff sheltered in place while the early release process was activated. As an additional measure, the Middle School was also placed in a shelter in place.

It was then determined that the best option was to dismiss all students in order to conduct a thorough search of the building.  District Administration worked with the Transportation Department and provided direct communication with parents that resulted in a calm and orderly dismissal. After an extensive search, including Public Safety, the Canine Unit and School Officials, we are extremely confident that there are no other ammunition or weapons in the building.

This incident demonstrates the value of pre-planning. The coordinated efforts of the Crisis Response Team allowed for security protocols to be implemented and the efficient activation of the Early Release Process.

Sincerely,

Evan Bishop, Principal; Cathy MacLeod, Superintendent; Chief Lee, HPD; Chief Slaman, HFD

Ammunition Found in Boys Team Room

Students Dismissed for Safety

Canines and officers sweep grounds

by Robert Falcione

February 1, 2018 -- Shortly after 9:00 am, a Massachusetts State Police unmarked hazardous materials disposal unit, lights flashing, tore up West Main Street, apparently heading to Hopkinton High School following the discovery a single round of ammunition in a boys team room. According to one source, it was a 30/30 round. No firearm was found at that time.

The school went into lockdown, and then dismissal, as Hopkinton Police and Fire and other public safety officials, includingfour K-9s, one from Worcester Police State Police, one from WPI and one from Massachusetts Environmental Police, arrived on scene to look for anything related. We await the conclusion of the search. Correspondent Ed Thompson contributed to this report.

Letter to parents from HHS Principal Evan Bishop

Good morning,

I am writing to inform you of a decision to evacuate and dismiss the high school.  We were notified this morning that a single round of ammunition was found in the boys team room. Immediately, local Police and fire were contacted and our Crisis Response Team was convened. After reviewing multiple options, district administration in conjunction with local Police and Fire, have determined that the best option to ensure student safety is to dismiss all high school students at this time.  This will enable officials to conduct a thorough search of the building.  Officers and the Canine Unit are here to perform a sweep of the building and grounds once all students have been dismissed.

All buses are here and ready for an early dismissal.  Any student who drives must leave now.  AlI parent pick ups must take place down the loop road.

Please understand we are working closely with the police department to ensure safety for all.

Thank you,

Evan Bishop

Principal

MURDER SUSPECT ON STATE POLICE MOST WANTED LIST CAPTURED IN LYNN

LYNN, MA January 31, 2018 -- In a joint operation last night, police captured a Lynn man who was on the Massachusetts State Police Most Wanted list for his role in a fatal 2012 home invasion in Billerica.

State Troopers, Lynn and Revere Police officers, and members of an FBI task force at 7:30 p.m. located STEVEN C. TOUCH, 28, in a residence at 108 Empire St. TOUCH was located hiding inside a drawer built into a bed frame.

Following his capture, TOUCH was taken to the Lynn Police Department, where he was booked. He was later transferred to custody of the Billerica Police Department.

TOUCH and two co-defendants, SOPHAN KEO and GABRIEL ARIAS, were indicted in June 2017 by a Middlesex County grand jury for the murder of 22-year-old Quintin Koehler during a home invasion early on the morning of July 7, 2012.

KEO and ARIAS were previously arrested but TOUCH remained at large. Last September, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section added TOUCH to its list of Most Wanted fugitives. (Click thumbnail to enlarge).

VFAS troopers, FBI agents, and local police officers searched intensively for TOUCH, who was believed to be moving from address to address fairly frequently.

Very recently, police developed information that he was at the Empire Street address and obtained a warrant. The Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team, the MSP’s specialized entry and high-risk arrest unit, made entry to the residence and located and apprehended TOUCH.

The successful conclusion of the search for fugitive TOUCH and he apprehension operation was the result of dedicated and coordinated work by several law enforcement agencies. Participating agencies and units were the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, State Police K-9 Section, State Police Special Tactical Operations Team, State Police Detective Unit for Middlesex County, State Police Gang Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation North Shore Gang Task Force, Lynn Police, Billerica Police, and Revere Police.

TOUCH will be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court, most likely on Wednesday. He will be prosecuted by the office of Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan.

January 27, 2018 -- Just after midnight this morning, State Police from the Milton Barracks responded to a four-car crash on Route 93 Southbound at Exit 6 in Braintree which resulted in one operator under arrest and a passenger who sustained serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Shane O’Reilly indicates that RANDALL BARBOSA, 25, of Weymouth was merging onto Route 93 Southbound from Route 3 Northbound at a high rate of speed in a 2008 BMW M5 when his vehicle rear-ended a 1997 Lexus ES300, which was merging into the left lane at the time. State Police Investigating Fatal Crash of Suspect Who Fled Motor Vehicle Stop

QUINCY, MA -- January 23, 2018 -- The suspect who fled the motor vehicle stop last night, and was determined to be deceased after rolling the motor vehicle he was driving over the sea wall on Quincy Shore Drive, is identified as PETER J. BOYLAN, 50, of Quincy. He was operating a 2003 Mercedes E320W sedan.

His passenger, who was ejected and transported to Boston Medical Center, is a 27-year-old Quincy woman.

The vehicles that BOYLAN struck while fleeing were a 2016 Toyota Camry and a 2012 Toyota Highlander utility vehicle. The operator of the Highlander is a 36-year-old Quincy male who was also transported to Boston Medical Center. The operator of the Camry is a 54-year-old Quincy woman who was not injured. (Please note that last night’s released incorrectly listed the operator of the Highlander as a female.)

Preliminary investigation indicates that BOYLAN fled a motor vehicle stop being conducted by a State Trooper on Quincy Shore Drive, drove southbound on that road at a high rate of speed, crossed the median and struck the Camry and the Highlander. The suspect’s Mercedes then struck the curb, went airborne, and rolled over the sea wall onto the beach, an approximate 10-foot drop. The reason for the initial stop of the Mercedes was motor vehicle violations.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Detective Unit for Norfolk County.

     Center School Re-use Meetings

The Center School Re-Use Advisory Team (“CSRAT”) is seeking public input on the potential future uses for the Center School Property. CSRAT will be holding a series of public forums in early 2018. The first forum, currently scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10 A.M. at the Hopkinton Senior Center, 28 Mayhew Street. The forum will provide an overview of the building and the property, discussion of the criteria for the committee to consider in making its recommendation, and solicitation of ideas regarding the future use or disposition of Center School. CSRAT plans to have two additional public forums, tentatively scheduled for March and April 2018. In addition, residents are asked to provide input on the project by completing a questionnaire, now available online at www.hopkintonma.gov/ .

Paper copies of the questionnaire are also available at Hopkinton municipal locations, including Town Hall, Hopkinton Library and Hopkinton Senior Center. Completed questionnaires can be mailed to CSRAT, Hopkinton Town Hall, 18 Main Street, or dropped off at Hopkinton Town Offices, 80 South Street. Located at 11 Ash Street, Center School has served the Hopkinton community as a school building since it was originally constructed in 1928. This original building is listed with the Hopkinton Center Historic District. Center School has been expanded twice, first in 1954 (known as the 1950’s addition) and again in 1986 (known as the 1980’s addition).

The school building is approximately 50,220 square feet, and it sits on a total land parcel area of 11.7 acres which includes play areas, parking spaces and a wooded/hilly area. With the upcoming opening of the Marathon Elementary School anticipated in the fall of 2018, the Board of Selectmen formed the CSRAT to explore the future of Center School. The Board of Selectmen’s charge to CSRAT is: “The Center School Re-Use Advisory Team will recommend, for the Board of Selectmen’s consideration, a plan for the Center School building and property that will provide the Board with valuable outside viewpoints on the use and development of the property. This plan shall outline the community’s vision for the future use of the property and produce recommendations for the Board’s consideration that align with the aspirations of the community.” Consisting of five residents appointed by the Board of Selectmen, CSRAT is led by Chairman Richard Flannery, and Vice Chair Kenneth Weismantel. The additional three committee members are Laura Barry, Darlene Hayes and John Pavlov. Comments or questions the Committee can be emailed to csrachair@hopkintonma.gov . Contributed content. Education Foundation Announces Invitational Runner

HOPKINTON, MA, January 25, 2017 - The Hopkinton Education Foundation is proud to announce Amy Dorfman, a local mother and Speech Pathologist, as the winner of our invitational number for the 122nd Boston Marathon. Upon hearing the news, “I'm elated, nervous, and excited to run for HEF!!”

Amy moved to Hopkinton with her family 6 years ago, feeling the strong sense of community. Her ties to the educational system drew her to want to run her very first Boston Marathon for the Hopkinton Education Foundation. She has three children in the Hopkinton Schools from 2nd grade to 6th and has seen the direct impact HEF has had on all of her children, “My kids have all benefited from the grants that HEF has provided them and I would like for them and all their classmates to continue to benefit from those grants.”

Running is one of Amy’s strongest passions as she has run numerous half marathons in the past 5 years as well as the Providence Marathon in 2016. However, this will be her first Boston! “I am most excited to run Boston because as a Hopkinton resident I have seen the excitement that fulfills the town in the weeks leading up to the race.” She will continue to train as she has for all her previous races and will keep us up to date with her training.

Amy enjoys volunteering in the community as well and combines this with both her faith and her love of running as she is a CCD teacher and coached for Girls on the Run. She continues to want to give back and could not be “prouder to train and run to raise money for grants for the school-aged children in our community. ”Please help support her by donating here: Donate to Amy's Marathon (http://bit.ly/Dorfman4HEF)
