Man Arrested with Illegally Possessed Firearm in Leominster

 

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:45 p.m., Trooper Michael Coflesky of the Troop C Community Action Team (CAT) was on patrol in Leominster, when he stopped a motorcycle on Lorchris Street for a motor vehicle violation.

The driver was identified as ARTEM S. GOLUMBIYEVSKI, 33, of Leominster. GOLUMBIYEVSKI was found to be in illegal possession of a loaded .32 caliber Colt pistol.  With the assistance of Trooper Stephen Crusco, GOLUMBIYEVSKI was placed under arrest.

GOLUMBIYEVSKI was charged with the following offenses:
1.            Possess firearm without FID card
2.            Possession of ammunition without FID card
3.            Carrying a firearm with ammunition
4.            Failure to signal

GOLUMBIYEVSKI was transported to the Leominster Barracks for booking, where he was held on $5,040 bail, pending his arraignment in Leominster District Court on Monday.

Hopkinton to Remember One of Its Originals
     John E. Cahill, Jr. will be put under the microscope by his many friends, neighbors, fellow veterans, and former co-workers on Veterans Day, 11 November 2016.  The American Legion McDonough-Carlberg Post 202 will oversee a gathering of persons who knew John Cahill, and who will contribute remembrances of John's life.

     The collective insights will be documented by local media with an objective to create a permanent record that will fully describe John.  He wasn't only a proud Marine who served on Iwo Jima.  John also was a 30+-year postman.  He was a rambunctious youngster on C Street.  John was an avid reader; he retained facts, became a consummate historian, and could tell stories about anybody and anything in Hopkinton.  He was a card player among his close friends, and a Stonethrower.

     And he must have been a ladies' man.  After all, he married an Italian!

     Wouldn't you enjoy learning more about John Cahill?  Better yet, how about contributing a personal story to the Cahill lore?

     It's not a requirement to be a Marine.  In fact, even if you didn't know John, you are welcome to attend so you can learn first-hand about an interesting person -- a treasure -- who has left lasting impressions on all of us.  

     Join the celebration of the life of John Cahill on Friday, 11 November 2016, at the Hopkinton Senior Center.  The timing is scheduled for the end of the Veterans Day activities which begin at 11am, and will be in the same room.  Its duration is not known precisely.  

     No doubt, it will be fun for all.

THE PREJUDICES OF AMERICANS: HOW THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE HAS UNCOVERED OUR DANGEROUS BIASES

He details this approach to handling depression, anxiety, and addictions in his book The Stress Solution: Using Empathy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to Reduce Anxiety and Develop Resilience. In this guest blog, which includes an excerpt from the book, Ciaramicoli focuses on our current presidential race in the United States and shows how dangerous it can be when we perceive with prejudice instead of empathy.

We have witnessed the worst presidential campaign in history. But fortunately the prejudices of millions of Americans have been revealed. Why do I say “fortunately”? Because I have been writing about the tremendous focus on appearance and wealth in our society, to the detriment of building character and integrity, since 2000, when I published The Power of Empathy, and now this issue has come into the national spotlight.



In that earlier book I emphasized how empathy is the key to understanding beyond the surface and to entering the heart or soul of those who may appear different on the outside. When we employ the capacity of empathy to see beyond our old conditioning — and conditioning is what prejudice is truly about — we learn that all human beings are more alike than not alike.



In my most recent book, The Stress Solution, I discuss the decline of integrity and character in our society, citing research that indicates how narcissism and getting ahead at all costs have replaced our emphasis on doing service for others. NPR recently cited a study by the American Psychological Association indicating that the presidential race has caused significant stress among Americans, especially the multitude of hostile, inflammatory comments.



The following excerpt is from a chapter in The Stress Solution titled “Clear Eyes: Perceiving the Truth through Empathy, Not Prejudice”:



I have always been deeply affected by prejudice. I have been called guinea and wop, asked if my family was in the Mafia, told that people like me should not go to college, and asked to not associate with certain friends because I was not of their religious background. However, the prejudice I have endured has been mild compared to the pain of those who suffer daily from distorted views about themselves.



As a result of years spent trying to teach people to rewrite their prejudicial stories about themselves and others, I am keenly aware of how prejudice can spread. It can develop into embedded beliefs and cause inordinate amounts of stress. These inaccurate beliefs hamper a person’s potential by creating self-hatred and destroying their spirit. Prejudice reduces trust, creates insecurity, and causes stress between individuals, communities, and nations. Whenever our perceptions are distorted, stress is a likely by-product.



I see patients on the hour five days a week. As we develop a trusting, caring relationship, people often feel free to speak spontaneously, with less inhibition than they express socially. I am continually fascinated and dismayed by the amount of stress that prejudicial thinking and behaving creates.



Along with my own personal experiences, here are a few comments I’ve heard recently in my practice from people from all walks of life.




“Dogs don’t like black people; must be something about their smell.”
“We should bomb all the Arabs, starting with Iran.”
“I’m not prejudiced, but I feel uncomfortable when my kids get close to Christians.”
“I’m not biased, but you know how Jews are. You’re not Jewish, are you?”
“My sister is in love with a German she met while traveling. My father won’t permit him to enter our house — he can’t forget the war.”
“Hispanics are taking over this country. All the liberals are telling our kids they need to learn Spanish.”
“You can’t trust a Palestinian; they are all killers.”
“Men lack the empathy gene.”
“I love my wife, but if women were leading the world, you know the economy would tank.”
“I know intellectually that I am wrong, but I just can’t believe a fat person can be that smart.”

Jo Ann Mann, 88

Jo Ann Mann, 88, of Hopkinton, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016. Born in Indianapolis, IN, she was the daughter of the late Lois E. (Provost) Christena and Francis W. Christena and sister of late Robert F. Christena and his wife Gloria (Novak) Christena.  She was the wife of the late Roy W. Mann.

 

Jo Ann attended Butler University, where she was a Home Economics major and President of Alpha Chi Sorority from 1948-1949. She was a house mother for The Forman School in Litchfield, CT.  She was a teachers aid for Stockton Elementary School, Stockton, IL  During the 1990's, Jo Ann was on the board for fundraising for the Alpha Chi House renovation. She was a USO volunteer in Miami Beach, a member of DAR in Bloomington, IN and enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlework, reading, English & American History.

 

She is survived by her children, Christena Scarpato and her husband Joseph of Hopkinton, MA, Stephen R. Mann and his wife Gayle of Ft. Wayne, IN; three grandchildren, Robert & John Scarpato and Cassandra (Mann) Bisig and her husband Ian Bisig. She also leaves behind her niece, Arden (Christena) Carlson and her nephew, Craig Christena.

8:33 pm An employee of a Main Street business reported a male who was trying to cash a money gram that looked fake and started yelling when the manager would not cash it. Officer Matthew Santoro responded to write a report.

4:59 pm Sgt. Timothy Brennan spoke with an individual who was holding up a sign on the Fruit Street bridge over Route 495.

4:04 pm A caller reported almost getting struck by a vehicle that sped past her on Main Street.

5:57 pm A caller reported a suspicious male walking across West Main Street between the two gas stations asking people for money because his car was broken down. Two officers checked the area with a negative find.


Monday, October 31, 2016

8:17 pm A caller reported witnessing someone throw toilet paper at a vehicle on Pinecrest Village then light it on fire. Officer Brian Sanchioni responded to write a report.

5:04 pm A caller reported an erratic operator on East Main Street. Three officers responded and advised that after a field sobriety test a 28 year-old male from Framingham was arrested and charged with OUI Liquor.

10:29 am A walk-in spoke with Officer Stephen Buckley regarding possible drug activity at his place of business.

6:34 am A caller reported that a company started working on Leonard Street before the allowed start time. Officer Linda Higgins responded and spoke with the company.

   
     



Marathon Invitational Process Begins

 
        
The Board of Selectmen approved the 2017 Invitational Entry Application Process for the Boston Marathon. (5-0) at Tuesday's meeting.

The selectmen would like each person awarded to collect $5,000 in pledges for a charitable cause.

From the Board of  Selectmen:
Invitational entry applications will be distributed to qualified organizations through a random selection that will take place at a Board of Selectmen meeting on Tuesday, December 15, 2015. In order to qualify for the random selection, an organization must fit one of two category descriptions outlined in the Town’s Marathon Policy, namely: i. Organizations undertaking public service activities for the benefit of the Town of Hopkinton; or ii. Organizations undertaking public service activities within and for the benefit of the Town of Hopkinton.

Doris Catherine Kumlin, 82

 

Doris Catherine Kumlin, 82, of Hopkinton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 30, 2016. Born in Westfield, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alice (Briant) and Walter Nelson. Doris was married for 51 years to the late Richard M. "Cook" Kumlin.

Doris was a standout athlete during her time at Hopkinton High School ("Stedgie Prep"). She was a pre-school teacher at Marion Clover's Twin Spruce Kindergarten School in the 1960's and later worked for over 25 years at the Hopkinton Public Library. As the Children's Librarian, she worked tirelessly to transform the Children's Room into a warm, welcoming place. She added child sized furnishings, started weekly story hours, put on puppet shows and organized summer reading programs, all to share her love of reading with the children. As a founding member of the Friends of the Library and member of the Library Board of Trustees, she volunteered countless hours fundraising for the library. Active in her children's activities, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout leader. Doris was well known as a talented seamstress, making anything from home décor to wedding gowns.

She is survived by her children, David Kumlin and his wife Tammy Hopkins of Lunenburg, Susan Hill and her husband Charlie of Uxbridge, Janice Harriman and her husband Robert of Milford; her two siblings, Bernhart Nelson and his wife Joanne of Lebanon, NJ, and Nancy Heines of Tequesta, FL. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Corina, Rheanna, Charles, Catherine, and Ava; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Chief Lauds Men

November 1, 2016 -- Last evening, Fire Chief Stephen Slaman offered a letter to the Board of selectmen praising the work ethic of two of his men, Lt. Carl Harris and Fire Prevention Officer Thomas Poirier, who were on their own time riding bikes with their families when they saw Sandwich, NH Chief of Police Doug Wyman in a struggle with a naked suspect, who was not responding to being hit by a taser several times. The Hopkinton firefighters approached Chief Wyman, identified themselves, and helped subdue the individual.

Rise of the Machines


October 30, 2016, Hopkinton, Mass. – This fall, continues on the restoration, renovation and expansion of the Hopkinton Public Library at 13 Main Street. The steel structure for the addition to the Library can now be seen rising from the newly poured foundation. Construction on the site began on April 11, 2016, and will continue until the expected opening of our new Library in late Summer 2017.

To prepare for the Library expansion, the house on the adjoining site at 9 Church Street was demolished and the site was cleared to pour the foundation for the addition. The construction of the foundation is now complete, including footing and concrete wall placements, an important milestone in the project. Steel beams rise from the foundation to frame the Library addition, and patrons are cheering the elevator shaft now visible in the form of a masonry elevator stack. (The original Library did not have an elevator and all visitors had to climb a flight of stairs to access the Children’s Room.) Utilities to service the addition are going in at the basement level, including plumbing lines, drains, and electrical conduits.

To prepare for the spectacular glass entryway off of Main Street and lobby for the new Library, CTA Construction removed the hallway connector, built in 1967, to link the original library and the church building. The interior of the original buildings are being prepared for renovation, while the repairing, restoration and repointing of the stone on the antique church and original Library are underway.

The next months will see the completion of the structural steel and the start of the building envelope for the Library expansion. The Town posts photos of the progress of the construction on a monthly basis at Hopkinton Library’s Facebook page. 9:53 pm A 911 caller reported an altercation between her and two other individuals in another vehicle on West Main Street. Four officers responded and spoke with everyone involved.

5:14 pm A caller reported witnessing a possibly impaired individual get into a vehicle and drive off on West Main Street. The State Police and Upton Police Department were notified.


Saturday, October 29, 2016

11:22 pm Four officers responded to an underage drinking party on Alprilla Farm Road.

7:06 pm A 911 caller reported a white SUV speeding through the area on Woody Island Road. When the driver was told to slow down they returned and physically assaulted the caller's boyfriend before leaving the area again.

11:09 am There was a report of an elderly male intentionally walking in front of traffic on West Main Street. He was gone upon Sgt. Scott vanRaalten's arrival.

2:25 am Officer Brian Sanchioni checked a motor vehicle on Hayward Street and subsequently arrested a 24 year-old male from Holliston and charged him with OUI Liquor.

10:43 pm Sgt. Aaron O'Neil wrote a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident on West Main Street.

8:47 pm A walk-in reported that an intoxicated female almost hit his son in the street while leaving the area of Davis Road. Officer Matthew Santoro checked the area with a negative find.

7:42 pm A 911 caller from Ash Street reported that about six youths were on her property trying to steal Halloween decorations. Two officers responded but could not locate them.

9:19 am A caller reported seeing a suspicious male on the Center Trail and when she turned to attend her dog and turned back he was gone. Two officers checked the area but did not see anyone suspicious.

   
     

Lynn Marion (Edwards) Fournier

 

Lynn Marion (Edwards) Fournier passed away on October 28, 2016, at 77 years of age. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Born in Worcester, MA on June 25, 1939 to Marion C. (Wennblad) Sandstrom, of Worcester, MA and Herbert E. Edwards, of Ormond Beach, FL, she grew up in the Worcester area and moved to Hopkinton, MA in 1965. Lynn was an active member of her community. She held positions on the Hopkinton Housing Authority and Hopkinton Cemetery Commission, Beta Sigma Phi, The Swedish National Federation of Worcster, The Swedish Ancestry Research Association, The Quinsigamond and Nordic VASA Lodges, the Swedish Cemetery Commission of Worcester and was a member of the Scandinavian Athletic Club in Shrewsbury, MA.

She was also a school bus driver for 15 years as well as a bookkeeper for construction companies and nursing homes. Lynn enjoyed camping, knitting, antiquing and bragging about her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph C. Fournier, her son Albin Anderson III, his wife Lisa, their son Albin IV, her son Christopher E. Anderson, his wife Brenda and their daughters Emma and Evelyn.

She is also survived by her Beta Sigma Phi sorority sisters, close friends and her “fur babies” Sasha and Angie. Services will be held at 11:00, Thursday November 3, 2016, at the Community Covenant Church, 2 West Elm Street, Hopkinton, MA. A Celebration of Life lunch will follow at the Woodville Rod & Gun Club, 252 Wood Street (Rt. 135), Woodville, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts Veterans Incorporated, 69 Grove St, Worcester, MA.

State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Burlington

October 30,2016 -- At 4:20 p.m. today, State Police from the Concord barracks responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Route 95 northbound, on the access road to the Middlesex Turnpike at Exit 32 in Burlington, which resulted in the death of the operator.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2014 Honda motorcycle was traveling on the access road to the Middlesex Turnpike when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered into the guardrail on the right side. The operator, a 67-year-old Woburn man, was thrown off the motorcycle and found unresponsive. He was transported by ambulance to Lahey Hospital in Burlington, where he was pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Jason Beausoleil with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Burlington Fire and EMS assisted at the scene of the crash.

The identity of the operator is being withheld pending family notification.

October 29, 2016 -- An individual working inside this garage at the head of Winter Street, according to an informed bystander, was burned severely when the gas tank he was working on blew up. Firefighters from Ashland  helped Hopkinton firefighters. The individual was transported to UMass trauma center.

State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Sutton

At about 7:40 p.m. today, State Police from the Grafton barracks responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Route 146 southbound in Sutton which resulted in the death of the operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Maureen Glynn-Wallace indicates that a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling on Route 146 southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and crashed.

The operator and sole occupant, a 65-year-old man from Sutton, who was entrapped in the vehicle, was extricated by members of the Sutton Fire Department before being transported to UMass Medical Center by Sutton EMS, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.

The identity of the operator is being withheld pending family notification.

State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on Mass Pike in Westborough

  

October 29, 2016 -- At about 1:30 a.m. today, State Police from the Weston barracks responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 90 westbound in Westborough, which resulted in the death of one occupant.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Richard McCarron indicates that a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the operator, a 20-year-old Worcester man, lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the right side of the roadway and strike a rock ledge. As a result of that collision, the driver and three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. One of the four ejected landed in the roadway and was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles which were traveling westbound at the time.

The occupant who was struck in the roadway, a 26-year-old female from Spencer, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other five occupants, an 18-year-old female from Shrewsbury, a 21-year-old male from Charlton, a 35-year-old male from Spencer, a 36-year-old male from Worcester, and the driver were all transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester for treatment of serious injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by numerous area fire departments, including Westborough Fire and EMS.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.

7:59 pm Two officers checked the area of Hayden Rowe Street for an individual who was reportedly running in and out of vehicles but did not locate anyone.

12:46 pm A 911 caller reported that an erratic operator was all over the road and almost hit a mailbox on Hayden Rowe Street. Officer Peter Booth responded and subsequently arrested a 57 year-old female from Worcester and charged her with Marked Lanes Violation and OUI Liquor, 3rd Offense.

 

8:59 am A caller complained about a person hanging signs on the Fruit Street bridge over Route 495. Officer Panagiotis Hontzeas responded and advised that the individual was just holding the signs.

   ESL Theater sponsors Halloween "Fun Run" Sunday

Enter Stage Left Theater in Hopkinton is sponsoring a 5K Halloween Fun Run/Walk this Sunday, October 30.

The fun run will be filled with spooky goblins, fairy princesses, and goofy characters cheering you on, offering you water, and entertaining you throughout the course. Participants are encouraged to dress in costumes. 

The flat course starts and ends at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts. It goes around the Loop Road behind the schools and includes two out and back sections on groomed gravel trails. Overall top male and female finishers as well as top three age group finishers will receive awards. There is also an award for best costume! Awesome t-shirts will be provided to the first 150 registrants.

On race day, participants can pick up their numbers from 9:00- 10:15 am. The race starts at 10:30 a.m. A Post Race Party at the HCA includes fun-filled family events such as face painting, pumpkin carving, and other Halloween themed crafts. Parking is available at Hopkinton High School.

The entry fee is $25 per participant and all proceeds benefit Enter Stage Left Theater.

Morgan P. Molloy, Sr., Age 92, Hopkinton, MA

  Predeceased by his beloved wife Clare (Burke) Molloy, he is survived by his four loving children: Kathleen Molloy Nollet and her husband Michael Nollet of Littleton, MA, Alison R. Molloy of Seabrook, NH, Pamela Molloy Thyne and her husband James of Hopkinton, MA, and Morgan P. Molloy, Jr., and his wife Judith Merra of Sudbury, MA. Also survived by his sister-in-law Christine Molloy of Harrison, ME, Bernard Burke of Cambridge, MA, Sarah Berenson of Raleigh, NC, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the U.S. and in Oughterard, Co. Galway, Ireland.

Born in Maynard, MA, in 1924, to Margaret B. (Lydon) and Michael J. Molloy, Morgan entered the Army Air Force in 1942. He served as a B-25 tail gunner in the Pacific theater of World War II, 820th Bombardment Squadron, 41st Bombardment Group, Seventh Air Force. As Staff Sergeant, he received an honorable discharge in 1946.


After 44 years at General Motors in Framingham, Morgan and Clare enjoyed traveling the country to the 820th reunions, maintaining long friendships, and spending time together. Morgan regularly attended the Veterans Breakfasts at the Hopkinton Senior Center.


Morgan was especially proud of his nine grandchildren: Jessica, Mireille, Samantha, Jenna, Colin, Morgan III, Kate, Sarah, and Tariku James. He loved each of them for their spirit, accomplishments, and the joy they brought to his life. His sense of humor, courage, and his love for his family endures in us all.


Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service with military honors at 11:00, Monday, October 31, 2016, Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Mt. Auburn St., Hopkinton, MA. Callanan Cronin Funeral Home of Hopkinton, MA, is handling arrangements (callanancronin.com).

State Police Investigating Pedestrian Fatal in Warren

 

October 27, 2016 -This morning at about 10:55 a.m., a male pedestrian was struck by a tractor-trailer on Route 90/ Massachusetts Turnpike eastbound in Warren which resulted in his death.

 

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Glenn Witaszek indicates the pedestrian entered the right travel lane and was struck by a tractor-trailer, which was traveling eastbound at the time.  The pedestrian, a 38- year- old male from Agawam, was determined to be deceased at the scene.

 

 The victim’s car was parked in the breakdown lane at the time of the incident. The operator of the tractor trailer, a 50-year-old man from Syracuse, NY, remained at the scene.

 

This crash remains under investigation by members of Troop E Charlton Barracks with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.  No charges have been filed at this time. State Police were assisted on scene by Warren and Sturbridge Fire and EMS, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MassDOT.

 

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending family notification.

6:46 pm A 911 caller from Grove Street reported someone in his garage. Two officers checked the property but did not find anyone.

12:54 pm A Wood Street resident called twice regarding large coyotes sunning themselves in her backyard which is neighboring a preschool/daycare. The Animal Control Officer was also notified.

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee Concert at St. Paul’s November 13

October 26, 2016 – The combined choirs and wind ensemble of Community Covenant and St. Paul’s Episocal churches in Hopkinton will be presenting a Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee concert at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, November 13 at 3:00 p.m. The concert is open to the public, and while there is no charge there will be a free-will offering to support Hopkinton’s coordinated response to the current Refugee Crisis. St. Paul’s is located at 61 Wood Street (Rte 135) in Hopkinton.

Under the direction of St. Paul’s Minister of Music Karen Scheffler, the concert will feature the voices of the choir and congregation as they join music from the organ, piano, flute, and euphonium in celebration of God and His blessings. Featured pieces include Johann Sebastian Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Jubilate, Exsultate from Douglas E. Wagner, and John Rutter’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You. The audience will be invited to sing along during certain songs during the concert.

Free Pasta Dinner at St. Paul’s September 28

 

 

The October Community Pasta Supper at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 61 Wood Street (Rte. 135) will be held today, October 26, at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to this event, which is being supported by the churches of the Hopkinton Christian Service Connection. This pasta supper is held for the community on the last Wednesday of every month.


The meal will feature pasta (gluten free available), vegetarian tomato sauce, meatballs on the side, green salad, bread, beverages, and dessert.  The pasta supper is free, although donations will be accepted.

Most Wanted Captured

At 11:05 p.m. last night, homicide suspect JAYDEN SMITH, 16, was arrested in Fall River by the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County, the State Police Gang Unit and Fall River Police Gant Unit, the Fall River Police Major Crimes Unit, and Fall River patrol officers.
 
State Police placed SMITH, who is wanted for a July 10, 2016 shooting homicide in Fall River, on their Most Wanted fugitives list last week.
 
Shortly after SMITH was placed on the MSP Most Wanted list, troopers developed information that narrowed their search to Fall River. Late last night troopers and officers located SMITH in an apartment and placed him under arrest on homicide and firearms charges.
 
SMITH is charged with the homicide of 29-year-old Jerrod Cohen.

New Location for White Metal Collection

 

The new location for the DPW’s white metal collection is 66 Fruit Street. This new location is due to the construction activities at the old DPW location. White metal collections will occur on the last Saturday of every month, from 7:00 am though 3:00 pm.
 
The Town will not accept freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, or air conditioners at the white metal collection.
