As many of you know, a craft beer brewery has been being constructed within the barn here at Water Fresh Farm, all while the hops were growing in our hydroponic greenhouse. Well, the hops have been harvested, construction is done, and the crafting of the beer will begin!

Hopkinton Police Dept. Rolls Out New Cruiser Design

On Friday October 14, 2016 the Hopkinton Police Department rolled out the new design for the marked patrol units.  Two newly designed cruisers were purchased as part of the annual fleet replacement program and funding was approved at the annual town meeting. It will take several years until the fleet is fully changed over to the new design.
 
Chief Lee stated: “Although the department takes great pride in the previous design, I believe this design brings the cruiser image more in line with contemporary law enforcement.  The members of the department were asked to provide input and recommendations into the new design.  When a department makes changes like this, it is very important to seek the input of the department members and the community, both have been very supportive of the new design.”
  
The only other change to the cruisers were upgrades in the roof mounted light bars  The new bars allow for great versatility of the lighting system.  One enhancement you will notice, is that the entire set of front facing lights can be switched to white for greater scene safety.  The light bar also automatically dims at night to aid passing motorists when traveling past the parked cruisers. Carol Ann Baxter, 70

Carol Ann Baxter, 70, of Hopkinton, MA passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the beloved wife of Joe Baxter for 51 years and the daughter of the late Viola and Carl Malinverni.

Carol was a faithful catholic who's endearing nature made everyone around her feel welcome and loved. Her sense of humor and zest for life made her an office favorite at a variety of employments including the U.S. Post Office, U.S. Army Natick Research Center and the Education Department at Syracuse University.

She was also the devoted mother of her son, Jeff Baxter and his wife Liu of Wellesley, MA; dear sister of Joel and Lynn Malinverni, both of Niagara Falls, NY; adored grandmother of Russell and Kenzie Baxter; and loyal friend to many. She is predeceased by her oldest son, Scot Baxter, who passed away in 1990.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 24th between 5-8pm at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St., Rt. 16 . A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30am on Tuesday, October 25th at St. Mary's Church in Holliston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol's name to the Alzheimer's & Dementia Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 (alz.org). 

Victim Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Waltham

 WALTHAM – The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office has confirmed the identity of a man killed yesterday following a crash on Wyman Street in Waltham.

The victim has been identified as Gregory Dwyer, 65, of Watertown.

At approximately 6:51 a.m. yesterday police responded to a crash involving a Lexus SUV and two pedestrians on Wyman Street in Waltham in the area of Hobbs Brook Office Park. Following the crash, a second victim, a 70-year-old male, was taken to another area hospital with serious injuries.

The driver was not injured and remained on scene. No charges have been filed at this time. This remains an open and active investigation.

Final Phase of Master Plan Updating

The Hopkinton Planning Board is in the final phase of updating the Town’s Comprehensive Master Plan and is looking for community input. Residents are invited to attend a public forum scheduled for November 21, 2016 at 7:35 PM in Room 215, Town Hall, 18 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA.

The Master Plan is a blueprint for physical growth and future development of the Town and includes goals and recommendations for Land Use, Natural and Cultural Resources, Housing and Economic Development, Community Facilities and Services and Transportation.

The current draft of the Master Plan is available on the Town’s website here. If you’re unable to attend the public forum, comments will be accepted by the Department of Land Use, Planning & Permitting through November 21^st.

Local Jewish congregations team up to offer a community-wide Introduction to Judaism course

Three local Jewish Congregations are jointly sponsoring a13 week Introduction to Judaism class. This class, which begins November 3^rd, is being taught by the clergy of Congregation B'nai Shalom and Beth Tikvah Synagogue of Westborough, and Temple Emanuel-Sinai of Worcester. Classes during 2016 will be held at Congregation B'nai Shalom and 2017 classes will be held at Temple Emanuel-Sinai.

The Introduction to Judaism series of classes is designed for all who wish to learn more about Judaism, or get a refresher on the basics. It is for Jews and non-Jews and both members and non-members of the sponsoring congregations. There is a $120 course fee for non-members, but no one will be turned away for financial reasons. Class hours are 7:30-9:30pm.

Many people are interested in learning more about Judaism for a variety of reasons. For those in interfaith relationships or marriages, the course can provide a helpful foundation for those who did not grow up Jewish. Jewish partners are also encouraged to attend, as the shared experience can provide an adult-level refresher and stimulate ongoing conversations about how to observe faith traditions as a family. An Introduction to Judaism is also suitable for those with general interest in understanding more about the historical foundations of Judaism and the way it is practiced today. The course can also provide a foundation for those interested in conversion to Judaism, when accompanied with additional learning and practice as determined with a sponsoring rabbi.

HCA gala returns November 5

    Get your tickets soon for “Color and Light,” a fundraising gala at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts on Saturday, November 5.

The event will feature live entertainment, dancing, an open bar with beer and wine, a signature cocktail, hors d’oeuvres, dessert and coffee, raffles and a live auction. Arriving guests will be greeted with sparkling wine and passed hors d’oeuvres and have the chance to see the latest show in the gallery, “Two Degrees of Expression,” as Rebecca Vega plays music. Guests will also have the opportunity to see all the fabulous drawing and raffle items throughout the gallery, performance space and barn. Peppers Catering will prepare the food and the MetroWest Jazz Project will provide music.

Guests will also be treated to a very special musical and artistic production number followed by a brief live auction. The auction items include tickets for two to Kristin Chenoweth at Boston Symphony Hall, a three-night stay at a Stockbridge cottage that sleeps 10, a chef dinner for 10 (compliments of Hopkinton Chef Lee Albove), tickets to the 2017 Deutsche Bank Championship and round of golf at TPC in Norwood, and more. After the auction, guests can enjoy dessert, drinks and dancing to music of band JP &Friends (featuring Hopkinton's Phil Antoniades) for the remainder of the evening.

HOPKINTON POLICE ACTIVELY INVESTIGATING CRASH INVOLVING PEDESTRIANS

October 17, 2016The Hopkinton Police are actively investigating a motor vehicle crash in the area of 112 Hayden Rowe Street. At 10:03 am our communications center received multiple calls reporting a  at this location. One of the callers was a mother reporting her children had been struck by a vehicle while she was pushing the stroller across the street. She also reported that her son was bleeding from his head.

Police Officers responded with the Hopkinton Fire Department Ambulance. Public Safety personnel found everyone involved in the crash to be conscious and alert. The mother who was from Hopkinton and her children were transported to the hospital as well the operator of the vehicle that struck the rear of the lead car.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements have revealed that a 61 year old female operator from Hopedale traveling Northbound stopped to allow a mother and three children to cross within a crosswalk from the East. It is believed at this time that the lead vehicle was then struck in the rear by a vehicle operated by a 32 year old milford man traveling Northbound as well. The female operators vehicle was then propelled off the roadway. The vehicle operated by the Milford man then continued on and struck the stroller, according to witness statements..

The Hopkinton Police Department is working with the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team on this investigation. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office has been contacted and an Assistant District Attorney has been assigned.

Baby Delivered on MassPike

Last evening at approximately 7:07 p.m., a call was received from a Framingham couple, who had just pulled over on the Massachusetts Turnpike, Interstate 90 Eastbound at the Allston Brighton tolls (exit 18). The Framingham woman was in labor.

State Police Weston Barracks dispatched area troopers and Boston EMS to the scene, as the couple had just pulled into the tandem parking lot just after the toll booth. Trooper Joseph Hilton was the first to arrive with Lieutenant William Nee shortly behind. They began rendering aide to the woman as she was in active labor.

Boston EMS arrived a short time later. At approximately 7:35 p.m., before the woman could be transported, a baby boy was delivered in the ambulance.  They were then transported to Mass General Hospital.

Dr. Cappetta to Speak About Grief at Single Again Meeting October 28

  HOPKINTON, MA (October 12, 2016) --- Dr. Vinnie Cappetta, a licensed counselor specializing in grief counseling, with be discussing “What it Means to Enlarge Our Souls through Grief and Loss” at the Single Again meeting being held at 7:00 p.m. on October 28. The Single Again meeting is open to the public and will take place at the Parish Hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 61 Wood Street in Hopkinton.

“Grief and loss might relate to the loss of a partner through death, divorce or separation; the loss of loved ones of any degree, family, friends, pets; the loss of a job, or other position important to one,” said Laurie LaBrecque of St. Paul’s. “Whatever your loss, we hope you will join us for this presentation, and sharing of your grief to whatever extent comforts you. All are welcome.”

In addition to being a counselor at the Check Your Compass Counseling in Hopkinton, Dr. Cappetta is also associate pastor of Crossroads Community Church, Framingham. 

Single Again is a support group for people who, though divorce, death, or other circumstances, are single again. It is not a dating group, and while it is a faith-based ministry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, it is open to everyone.

The Hopkinton High School Athletic Hall of Fame is celebrating

5^th induction ceremony on Saturday November 5^th

    General Information

• Total of nineteen inductees over eight decades, between 1935 and 2007.

•  

• There is a father and son duo being inducted in this class. From the class of 1935, Duncan Hamilton, a star football and basketball player. His son, DP, class of 1967, was a 3 sport standout in football, basketball and baseball.

•  

• From the 1940’s, the inductees include Mary Bernard, class of 1940, Richard ‘Mike’ McBride, class of 1945, and Eleanor Pierce, class of 1942. Mary was a standout basketball player on some of the early teams of Coach Marion Harris and continued playing at Framingham State where she was a multiple year captain. Mike was a 3 sport standout, a star on a number of Chick Welch’s football teams from 1941 through 1944, as well as a star basketball and baseball player, and a long time Hopkinton police officer. Eleanor Pierce, class of 1942, was another star on many of Coach Marion Harris’ basketball and softball teams, each team being undefeated in her senior season.

• From the class of 1957, Gerry Brodeur. He played basketball and baseball but was best known as a star football player who continued his career in college at Columbia University.

•  

• Albie Harris, class of 1964, joins DP Hamilton from the 1960’s. He was another 3 sport standout. And Sue Beavers, class of 1965, who played and coached multiple sports over a number of years, and later served as Athletic Director.

•  

• From the 1970’s, the inductees include a man and woman who both have a father and brother who have previously been inducted. Charlie Hill, class of 1974, was a standout football, basketball and baseball player, who continued his football career at Mass Maritime. Lisa Doyle Carloni, class of 1976, was a star field hockey, basketball and softball player, and played field hockey, lacrosse and rugby during her career at Brown University.

•  

• The inductees from the 1980’s include a trio of standout football players from the class of 1985 and some of Coach Dave Hughes’ best teams. Richie Schiloski was one of the finest running backs in HHS history. Mike Mansir was a standout fullback and linebacker on these teams. And Kevin Pitts was also a standout lineman on these teams and was a three time TVL lineman of the year.

•  

• The 1990’s inductees include Heath Walker, class of 1991, and Jenn Britz, class of 1995. Heath was a great wide receiver in football and a solid basketball player. He continued his football career at UConn. Jenn was an All-American track and field athlete, one of Coach Scanlon’s best ever, who continued her career in college.

•  

• The inductees from the 2000’s include Mark Ostrander, Class of 2004, a star three sport athlete who played baseball at UMaine, and Keegan Bradley, also Class of 2004, who was a member of the 2003 State Championship golf team coached by Dick Bliss and continued his golf career at St. John’s and on the PGA Tour. The women include Katie Hoppe, class of 2004, another top track and field athlete on a number of top teams fielded by Coach Scanlon, and Kim Donovan, class of 2007, another member of the 2003 State Championship golf team who played golf at Duke University.

• The Banquet is being held at the St. John’s Parish Center, Church Street, Hopkinton, MA on Saturday November 5, 2016, starting at 6:30 PM. Man Abandons Copy of Koran in State Building - Triggers Investigation

October 10,2016 - At approximately 11:25 a.m. State Police from Troop H responded to the McCormack Building at One Ashburton Place on Beacon Hill for a report of an unattended package. The building, located across the street from the State House, houses various state agencies.

Responding troopers located a book, determined to be a copy of the Koran, left unattended outside the main front entrance. Initial reports that wires were protruding from the book proved to be false.

Troopers reviewed security footage which showed a man leaving the book at the top of the steps outside the entrance and walking away.

The State Police Bomb Squad responded and determined there was no threat and gave the all-clear.

PLEASE NOTE: We believe that a man arrested by Boston Police this afternoon on outstanding out-of-state warrants is the same man who left the book outside the McCormack Building. State Police at the Commonwealth Fusion Center continue to review and examine information about the suspect. Please contact Boston Police, the arresting agency, for more information.
