Trails for Tails
Trails for Tails is a new program coming to Greyhound Friends Inc. in mid May! Volunteers who sign up for this program will be given weekly time slots, where they will come to the shelter, be paired with a dog in need of some exercise, and get to take them for a hike or run, on the nearby and beautiful Duck Pond Trails, which are a part of the Hopkinton State Park. This is an all inclusive program, you do not need to be a distance runner to participate, as many of our dogs have not had proper exercise in a long time, and would love to simply go for a short jog or a nice easy walk. By joining this program, you will be improving our dogs quality of life, their social skills and chances for adoption, as well as helping to publicize the shelter. Sign up before May 1st for a t-shirt! Interested? Go to this link and fill out the application: http://www.greyhoundfds.org/Trails-for-Tails.html ! |

Planning Board Member Resigns
by Robert Falcione March 29, 2016 — Planning Board member Frank Sivo has resigned as of March 15, 2016, citing differences with leaders on informing citizens in matters related to public safety. The full letter to Selectman Chair Ben Palleiko is below. Several public officials contacted would not discuss the matter, or provide a reference to Mr. Sivo's concerns, nor would he, leading a reasonable person to conclude that the matter at hand was discussed in executive session, or a least in an environment that provides negative consequences for disclosure. The only executive session for the Planning Board this year was on February 22, 2016. On the agenda for that secret meeting were two pieces of land to be conveyed to the town by Legacy Farms. There was no other matter listed for the executive session. However the expansion of the gas facility has for some time been the subject of whispers and rumors, as well as conflicting solutions to safety concerns. As for Mr. Sivo's seat on the Planning Board, it will not go on this year's ballot, but will be filled by a joint meeting between the Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen for the period leading to the following election. Mr. Sivo's letter of resignation is below:
Tuesday, March 15, 2016 Ben Palleiko Chair of Hopkinton Board of Selectmen Mr. Palleiko, It is with regret and disappointment that I am writing to you to resign my position as a member of the Planning Board, effective immediately.
I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the citizens of Hopkinton on both the Appropriations Committee and, more recently, the Planning Board.
Unfortunately, over the past few weeks, I have found that I have a very fundamental difference of opinion with elected leaders of Hopkinton with respect to the government’s duty to inform citizens, via open and transparent government, on matters related to public safety.
I wish you and the current/future members of the Hopkinton Board of Selectmen the best of luck in your service to the citizens of the Hopkinton. Kind regards, Frank Sivo 14 Stone Crossing Way Hopkinton, MA |

REMINDER:
Ideas&Insights at Fay School - Dr. Rob Evans "Self-Esteem: What It Really Is; What Parents Can—and Can’t—Do to Help It" Monday, March 28 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Self-esteem
is perhaps the most widely known—and misunderstood—concept in
child psychology. It’s seen as essential to children’s happiness
and performance. But there is actually no way to give
self-esteem to a child, and the experiences that build it
contradict what most parents believe. Dr. Rob Evans will clarify
self-esteem and its role in students’ lives and offer specific,
practical suggestions for helping children gain confidence and
competence. |
