Two officers responded and subsequently arrested a 59 year-old female from Holliston and charged her with OUI Liquor. 5:58 pm A caller reported being locked in at an East Main Street business. Officer Arthur Schofield responded and advised that the driver got stuck while attempting to drive around the gate. A tow truck was called and a key holder unlocked the gate. 5:58 pm A caller requested information on dealing with identity theft. 5:33 pm Two officers responded to Route 495 to assist the Fire Department with a motor-home fire. 12:24 pm A resident of Hillcrest Drive reported that a red vehicle keeps speeding up and down the street and would like extra police checks of the area. 11:20 am Officer Matthew McNeil stopped a motor vehicle on Chestnut Street and subsequently arrested a 46 year-old male from Uxbridge for a Warrant. 10:11 am A Valentine Road resident complained about postal trucks speeding through the neighborhood and stated that officers could use their driveway to run radar. 8:25 am A caller reported loud construction on Pond Street. Two officers spoke with the crew and advised that they will be shutting down.
Saturday, September 26, 2015 11:59 pm A motorist reported an erratic operator on West Main Street. Officer John Corridan checked the area and followed the vehicle until exit 20 on Route 495. 11:21 pm A resident complained about loud music from a party on First Road. Sgt. Timothy Brennan spoke with the home owner who turned down the music. 9:45 pm A 911 caller reported that a woman climbed down from Route 495 and was lying on the wall by the side of Fruit Street. When asked if she was alright she stated that she was fine and was just waiting for a ride. Officer Philip Powers checked the area with a negative find. 3:29 pm A motorist reported seeing a suspicious person walking on Wilson Street with a heavy backpack on who then veered off into the woods when he saw her. Two officers responded and subsequently arrested a 31 year-old male from Boston and charged him with Possession of Class A Substance and Possession of Class E Substance. 1:58 pm A walk-in spoke with Officer Matthew McNeil regarding credit card fraud. 12:25 pm Two officers spoke with a resident of Priscilla Road regarding a neighbor dispute. 12:12 pm Officer Aaron O'Neil spoke with a walk-in in regards to his neighbor cutting down trees on his property. 6:27 am A resident of Parker Point Road reported hearing gunshots since 6:00am this morning. Two officers responded and were able to hear the gunshots but could not determine where they were coming from. 1:51 am Sgt. The Milford Police Department was notified. 8:43 pm Five officers responded to a fight at the high school football game and advised that one individual was transported to the hospital. 3:39 pm A caller reported that water was pooling on North Mill Street. Two officers checked the area and spoke with a company who was draining a swimming pool. 7:53 am A detail officer reported a minor motor vehicle accident with personal injury to a bystander on Wood Street. Two officers responded to assist. 5:07 am A 911 caller from Valleywood Road reported that a suspicious vehicle pulled over to the side of the street and left the vehicle running. Life of Tired Driver Saved by Attenuator
September 27, 2015 - At 7:45 a.m. this morning a 23-year-old woman from Providence fell asleep while traveling on Route 95 southbound in Attleboro. The 2015 Subaru she was driving drifted off the road and struck the attenuator at the beginning of a guardrail section.
These crash attenuators are designed to absorb impacts from vehicles and this one did its job perfectly. If this vehicle had struck a tree or another driver, it is likely a trooper would have been knocking on a door with devastating news for her parents.
A reminder to us all that driving tired can have deadly consequences.

Crosspoint Slows Down?
by Robert Falcione September 26, 2015 - A group of motorcyclists, New England Riders, decided to stop at Snappy Dogs for some hot dogs and shtick from Teresa and Lisa on Saturday afternoon. They are seen parked in the parking lot of the former Colella's Supermarket now owned by Crosspoint Associates, a development company, which has, by their own account, leased retail space to CVS for 20 years. In a public relations battle for the hearts and minds of Hopkinton residents, Crosspoint has publicly offered Downtown shoppers the use of their lot following the erection of signs at Hopkinton Drug limiting their parking to customers only, and only while they are shopping there. On nearly the same day the signs went up at Hopkinton Drug, people witnessed similar no-parking signs being removed by employees of Crosspoint Associates from their very own lot. Hopkinton Drug's action resulted from the addition of 36 customer seats inside, and another dozen or so undocumented seats added to the outside, at two businesses on the adjacent property, with no corresponding addition to the parking inventory of those businesses. According to Hopkinton Drug, the customers of the newly expanded businesses were taking their prime parking spots. Crosspoint also has a space in their building reserved for a package store that is expected to transfer the liquor license from the holder of Colella's license, which is no longer being used by the market, because they have removed their inventory of alcoholic beverages and stopped doing business. According to people associated with Crosspoint, a tenant has been agreed upon, but no action is expected to be finalized during the appeal process. A group of residents has filed an appeal of the CVS building permits with the Board of Appeals claiming that CVS is a health care facility, which is banned from Downtown zoning. However, walk-in health care is specifically excluded from uses CVS documented with the Planning Department for this location. Among the original signers of the appeal was Mike Patel of Country Farms, who has since removed himself from the appeal, leaving no abutters, people with standing, on the list. After Mr. Patel removed himself, abutters Hopkinton Drug owner Dennis Katz and 20 Grove Street resident attorney Jason Mahon, have submitted for addition to the list of appellants. Considering the validity of the new arrivals will likely be the first order of business when the Public Hearing resumes as expected on October 7, 2015. There has been little or no activity by people in the building trades at the Crosspoint property, according to witnesses, for an extended period of time. Crosspoint's public relations company is expected to get back to HopNews on the reasons why. It is common practice for the subject of an appeal to refrain from construction of anything detailing the business under appeal, although they often perform generic improvements. Crosspoint has been warned by the Building Department that any changes they make after the filing of the appeal is done at their own peril. NOTE: Snappy Dogs will be appearing at Weston Nurseries on Sunday during their Customer Appreciation Weekend. |

HOPKINTON - Andrew Foster Payson, 51, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 in his favorite place, Kennebunk, Maine. He was a 1986 graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he met his beloved wife and true partner in life, Kim. In 2002 he completed his Master’s in Business Administration at Babson College. Drew spent fourteen years of his career with Kronos in Chelmsford, MA and has worked for Mercer in Norwood, MA for the last five years.
A proud father of two and devoted husband, Drew resided in Hopkinton, MA for the last 17 years. Drew dedicated himself to his family, always putting time together and family vacations ahead of all else. He took great pride in his children’s passions from childhood to adulthood, cheering them on at a cappella concerts, building hovercrafts in the garage and even adopting his son-in-law’s passion for Syracuse sports. Over the last three years, Drew spent countless happy weekends in his favorite Maine escape with his family: Kennebunk. From hiking, to biking, to kayaking, to surfing, to running, to skiing, Drew never let a beautiful day pass him by. He lived every day with purpose and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his wife and children.
Drew will be remembered for his commitment to his family and his passion for life.
Drew leaves behind his wife, Kim (Gromko) Payson of Hopkinton; daughter Deanna and her husband Bill Spaulding of Weymouth, MA; son, Ken Payson of Seattle, WA; his mother, Barbara Payson, and brother, Chris Payson, of North Attleboro as well as nieces and a nephew. Drew is preceded in death by his father, Richard K. Payson.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hopkinton, MA. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Holliston. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, Hopkinton.

September 25, 2015 - Last season, Greg Mazur, owner of MNR Realty LLC, informed the Planning Board that his approved project at 42 Main Street, Central Place, would be scaled down to a one story building, which was originally approved for two stories above ground and one below. Mr. Mazur is expected to present his new plan, drawn up by Hopkinton's own Gorman Lewis Richardson Architects and J. D. Marquedant & Associates, to the Planning Board on Monday. The project appears to keep about 35 parking spaces, and proposes to add several spaces to the opposite side of Walcott Street. Mr. Mazur recently purchased the adjacent property at 30-34 Main Street, stripped it to skin and bones, and refurbished the building inside and out to the delight and approval of Hopkinton residents. The name of the new project, Central Place, is an apparent nod to the building, the Central House, which formerly occupied the space at 42 Main. |

September 24, 2015 - Hitting 70 may be Dick Gooding's golfing score, but today it is his age on his birthday, according to a message from a loving family member, and confirmed by Facebook itself. The former Hopkinton Selectman, HHS athlete and graduate, West Point graduate and a US Army Captain in Vietnam, was active in Hopkinton politics, and mentioned as a possible candidate for Town Manager during the Town Charter development process. Mr. Gooding was also involved with the Hopkinton Republican Town Committee, Governor Romney's fundraising, and American Legion Post 202. After a few recent years of nomadic regional moves, Mr. Gooding and his wife, the former Judy Bowker, whose Hopkinton pedigree gives him Townie status by marriage, have settled in Atlanta. Incident Log Monday, September 21, 2015 6:54 pm A caller reported getting a call from an elderly woman who “needed help” then hung up after stating that she had the wrong number. He requested a well being check on her. 6:46 pm A caller reported an erratic operator on East Main Street. Officer John Moran responded and located the vehicle parked without an operator nearby. 5:59 pm Officer Arthur Schofield checked the area of Clinton Street for a report of four gunshots but did not hear anything suspicious. 9:37 am A walk-in stated that someone ripped out his mailbox today. 7:20 am A caller reported that a motor vehicle was driving erratically on Hayden Rowe Street. Officer John Corridan responded and spoke with the operator. |

In addition to his parents,
Scott is survived by his beloved son Ryan Bowker and
Ryan’s mother Amy Erickson of Hopkinton. He also
leaves his sisters Joanne Markarian and her husband
Jeffery and Lisa Coito and her husband Steven; and three
nieces and a nephew, all of Hopkinton. In
addition, he leaves behind his maternal grandmother
Dorothy Plourde. He is predeceased by his paternal
grandparents Raymond and Violette Bowker and a
grandfather Robert Plourde.
A memorial funeral Mass will
be celebrated Saturday, September 26 at 10 a.m. in St.
John the Evangelist Church. Funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to the
Callanan Cronin Funeral Home.

Mitchell Hardenbrook, MD
graduated with a degree in medicine from Hahnemann
University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA in 1997.
He performed his residency at the University of Maryland
Medical Center-Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Hardenbrook continued his training with a fellowship
in spine surgery at New England Baptist Hospital and
Tufts University, Boston, MA.
Board certified in orthopedic
spine surgery, Dr. Hardenbrook is the founder and
president of The Advanced Spine Institute of Greater
Boston. He specializes in minimally invasive
surgery to treat most spine conditions. This
technique allows access through tiny incisions,
resulting in a faster recovery for the patient, less
pain, lower risk of infection, less trauma to the
muscles and body and a shorter hospital stay. Some
procedures may be done in an outpatient setting, while
others may require a 1 – 2 day hospital stay.
Dr. Hardenbrook is an
assistant clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at
Tufts University School of Medicine. Currently, he
is seeing patients at Milford Regional two days per

HOPKINTON – Tuesday September
22, The Education Cooperative (TEC) Internship Program
recognized 16 Hopkinton High School students who
successfully completed their educational internship
during the summer of 2015, in a ceremony held at
Hopkinton High School. TEC is a non-profit educational
collaborative, formed by 16 public school districts, and
is located in East Walpole, MA. For over 20 years, TEC
Internship program has provided junior and senior high
school students the opportunity to work alongside local
business mentors to gain hands-on experience and explore
a career in a wide variety of areas before pursuing
higher education. Over 2,000 students have participated
in TEC Internship program to date. This summer’s
participants worked on various projects in Business,
Chemistry, Engineering, Finance, Graphic Design,
Marketing, Medical Research, Music radio, Non-profits,
Physical Therapy and Veterinary Medicine Research. Hopkinton High School
Principal, Evan Bishop, and Guidance staff with The
Education Cooperative Internship Program Coordinators
and students. |

Arrest Log Sunday, September 20, 2015 8:19 pm Officer William Burchard arrested Peter M. Bates Jr., 33, of Londonderry Way, Uxbridge, on West Main Street and charged him with OUI Liquor, Marked Lanes Violation and Drinking Alcohol From an Open Container.
Thursday, September 17, 2015 7:58 pm Officer John Moran arrested Eric Robert Lichtenberg, 38, of Grove Street, Milford, on Main Street and charged him with OUI Liquor and Failure to Stop/Yield.
Incident Log Sunday, September 20, 2015 8:19 pm Officer William Burchard stopped a motor vehicle on West Main Street and subsequently arrested a 33 year-old male from Uxbridge and charged him with OUI Liquor, Marked Lanes Violation and Drinking Alcohol From an Open Container in a Motor Vehicle. 5:45 pm A walk-in filed a report of vandalism to the side of their garage. 5:14 pm Officer John Moran issued a motor vehicle a parking ticket on Davis Road. 1:05 pm Officer Aaron O'Neil spoke with a walk-in regarding vandalism. 9:10 am A Pond Street resident reported that construction workers were working and making a lot of noise. They stopped after the caller spoke with them. 1:02 am A caller reported that a suspicious white cherry picker truck was traveling up and down Lincoln Street. Two officers searched the area with a negative find.
Saturday, September 19, 2015 11:50 pm A female caller from West Main Street reported that vehicles were blocking her driveway. Three officers responded and advised that they were removed. 5:30 pm A Wood Street resident reported that a suspicious male was looking around the vehicles parked in their driveway and when asked what he was doing he stated that there was broken glass in the driveway. The caller stated that there was no broken glass anywhere and that he may have been attempting to break into the vehicles. Two officers checked the area with a negative find. The Westborough Police Department was notified. 12:51 pm A caller reported that something with four wheels was sticking out of the water on South Mill Street. Two officers responded and advised that it was an old baby carriage that has been there for awhile. 11:06 am A walk-in reported finding a debit card in a parking lot on West Main Street.
Friday, September 18, 2015 11:32 pm A 911 caller reported that she was left stranded in the State Park. Two officers responded along with the Ashland Police Department and Holliston K9 unit. The party was located and picked up by her mother. 10:59 pm A Pleasant Street resident reported that lights were flashing at a residence in the neighborhood. Officer Peter Booth responded and advised that it was from a malfunctioning motion detector. 10:36 pm A resident of Teresa Road reported that a suspicious vehicle was lurking around the neighborhood. Officer Peter Booth checked the area with a negative find. 9:36 pm A caller reported that an individual was drinking excessively and using loud profanity at the clubhouse area on Woodview Way. Four officers responded and advised the individual to keep the noise down. 3:24 pm Officer William Burchard assisted a West Main Street business with serving a no trespass notice. 11:54 am A message was left for the DPW that a red light was out at the intersection of West Main and Wood Street. 11:05 am A walk-in reported that a construction company left a hole in the roadway on East Main Street which caused damage to her vehicle. Officer Stephen Buckley checked the area but did not find any hole in the roadway. 1:31 am The Highway Department was notified that the traffic light at South Street was not triggering and there was a prolonged delay.
Thursday, September 17, 2015 10:39 pm Officer John Moran responded to West Main Street to assist an individual with a language barrier. 7:58 pm A 911 caller reported an erratic operator on Main Street. Two officers responded, pulled the vehicle over and subsequently arrested a 38 year-old male from Milford and charged him with OUI Liquor and Failure to Stop/Yield 6:04 pm A motorist reported that two vehicles were driving erratically on Hayden Rowe Street. Officer Arthur Schofield located one of the vehicles and spoke with the operator. 4:03 pm A caller reported that there was an abandoned motor vehicle on West Main Street. Two officers responded and stated that the owner contacted a company to have it towed. 3:52 pm Officer Arthur Schofield spoke with a walk-in regarding suspended drivers license questions. 3:27 pm Officer John Moran spoke with school staff regarding a suspicious male who was asking questions about a student and then left immediately. 2:48 pm Officer Philip Powers spoke with a resident regarding bus stop issues. 10:48 am Sgt. Scott vanRaalten assisted a resident with a neighbor dispute. 7:48 am A caller requested extra speed checks on Victory Lane between the hours of 7:30am-7:40am on school days. |

September 21, 2015 — Even the Veterans Memorial Gazebo appears to sway with the feeling exuded by Rachel Balaban, left facing camera, as she leads a group of seniors from the Golden Pond Assisted Living in "Dancing for Our Aging Population" as the temperate, clean breeze blew across the lawn, and a new fountain added the sound of falling water and mist into the environment (below). Part of the serendipity was that Bhaktimarga Swami, also known as the "Walking Monk," was passing by on his walk through Hopkinton and was invited to join in the uplifting exercise.

Hillers evened their record at 1-1 with an
impressive 35-12 win on the road in Norton on Friday
night. Jake Kelleher threw touchdown passes to Jack
Vaccari and Will Abbott, while co-captain Sam Lehman
had two touchdown runs and added two fumble
recoveries on defense. Connor Hebert rounded out
the scoring with a 3 yard plunge and also had an
interception. In all, the Hiller defense produced 4
turnovers led by strong performances by their front
