WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced that Thomas Benjamin, 48, was arraigned in Framingham District Court today on a charge of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

Judge Douglas Stoddart set bail at $100,000 cash and ordered the defendant to stay away from, and avoid contact with, the victim. The next court hearing for Benjamin is scheduled for Monday, September 14.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 13, Framingham Police responded to a report of an injured man located in the area of 60 Concord Street, Framingham. The victim was transported to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. The victim displayed major facial trauma and was suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage. The victim was transported to Tufts Medical Center in Boston where he underwent surgery.

The Framingham Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office are investigating this incident.

Jess S. Palmer, 73

Jess S. Palmer, 73, died suddenly August 10, 2015 in Framingham. He was the husband of the late Muriel Anne (McKenna) Palmer, who died January 4, 2006. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of Jess J. and Marion O. (Bolster) Palmer.

He was a graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, New Jersey. He served active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963, principally aboard the U.S.S. Kidd (DD-661). He earned his undergraduate degree from Bentley University and earned his MBA from Babson College, and had a long and successful career in corporate finance.

He enjoyed the stock market and giving sage advice to anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his son J. Brian Palmer and his wife, Marci, and grandchildren Sean Martin and Meghan Muriel, all of North Grafton. He leaves his sisters Loretta Band and her husband Richard of Peabody and Susan Johnson and her husband Michael of Johnstown, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Judith Carter of Johnstown, NY.

Memorial calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street, Hopkinton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, North Grafton. Private burial in Evergreen Cemetery will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lance Corporal Eric Paul Valdepeñas Scholarship Fund at the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts, 121 Presidents Drive, Amherst, MA 01003.

Sunday, August 16, Noon: Center/Welzel Trails walk

We'll be exploring two new sections of the crown jewel of Hopkinton's trails, the Center Trail. We start on the recently completed restoration of the section that runs from Chamberlain Street to the Loop Road. Then we'll follow the trail along the Loop Road, reenter the woods and continue nearly to the other end (approaching Main Street and Hopkinton Lumber), where the new Andy Welzel trail loops down to explore the ravine. After checking out the new path, we'll retrace our steps back to Chamberlain.

The Center Trail Art Walk is underway, so we'll see a variety of artwork and sculpture along the trail.

We'll begin the walk at the trailhead on Chamberlain. There's limited parking there along the street, or you can park in Lot K on the Loop Road (just past Hopkins School), and walk the short distance along the trail to Chamberlain. ~ TrailsClub

Charges Filed Against Driver Who Struck Tow Operator In Middleboro

August 13, 2015 - DAVID MASCARENHAS of Dorchester has been identified as the 29-year-old driver of the 2008 Honda Civic that struck a tow truck operator on Route 495 in Middleboro early Sunday morning. The tow truck operator was outside his truck assisting with a disabled motor vehicle when he was struck.

MASCARENHAS has been charged with the following:

1) Negligent Operation Of A Motor Vehicle
2) Failure To Change Lane For An Emergency Vehicle
3) Marked Lanes Violation
4) Speeding

Expanded Volunteer Opportunities at
Milford Regional Medical Center

  MILFORD – Volunteer opportunities are growing at Milford Regional Medical Center!
If you have a few hours a week to give, are friendly and outgoing, want to give back to your community, consider volunteering at Milford Regional.
Some of the volunteer needs include visitor escort, lobby information, emergency department volunteer, wheelchair escorts and gift shop assistance.
Milford Regional has a particular need for volunteers to serve as emergency department visitor escorts. In this role, volunteers escort visitors from the emergency room lobby to see their family member who is a patient. Each shift is three hours, and shifts are available late morning, afternoon, evening and night any day of the week. This role is ideal for anyone looking to add steps to their day as it entails a lot of walking.
