John T. M. Pryke, 73 HOPKINTON -
John T. M. Pryke,
73, of Orleans, MA, passed away after a
long illness on December 22, 2013 surrounded by his
loving family. He was the beloved husband of Sandra (Cookingham)
Pryke and devoted father of Stephanie Carney and her
husband William of Sutton, MA, David Pryke and his wife
Elise of Acton, MA and the late Howard Leslie. He was
the loving grandfather of Brittany Carney of Quincy, MA,
Jessica Leslie of Wakefield, MA, Bridget Carney of
Bristol, RI and Rachel Pryke of Acton, MA. John was born in New York City
and graduated from MIT in 1962 with a degree in
Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree from
Northeastern University. He went on to serve as a
marketing manager for Digital Equipment Corporation for
over 15 years. Known throughout the Model Railroading
community, John developed his passion for modeling the
New Haven Railroad as a young boy watching the steam
locomotives in Old Saybrook, CT. He served as an
innovator in the field with frequent contributions to Model
Railroader magazine as well as
authoring a book. He was a founding member in the New
Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association and
also was an active member of the Nauset Model Railroad
Club. John also shared a love of the ocean. He retired
to Cape Cod and enjoyed spending time surf casting with
friends on Nauset Beach. He spent many winters in Saint
Augustine, FL. A memorial service will be
held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in the
Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street,
Hopkinton. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery,
Hopkinton. Donations may be made to the
American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham,

Janet Rose Ferreri, 66
Hopkinton- Janet Rose Ferreri, 66, of Hopkinton and formerly of Holliston, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she is the daughter of Jean (Termini) Ferreri of Boca Raton, FL and the late Edward Ferreri. Janet was a Montessori teacher for 30 years and taught at Placentino Elementary School in Holliston for 25 plus years; where she started the Montessori Program. She was an advocate in applying peace and multicultural diversity in her teaching. She loved to travel and enjoyed the ocean. Janet loved living by the water and nature and was an exceptional mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, friend and teacher. She taught adult Yoga classes in Holliston and enjoyed the spiritual aspect of life. Besides her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Santina D. Wendlingof Attleboro, son-in-law Scott Wendling; her sister, Diane Wakefield and her husband Steven of Marietta, NY; 2 grandchildren, Brady and Nicholas; her current life partner of 13 years, Harvey J. Krupnick of Hopkinton; and former husband James Masters of Florida. caller reported that a suspicious motor vehicle was
parked at the boat ramp on Lakeshore Drive. Officer
Peter Booth spoke with the occupant 9:39 pm A caller from Cobblers Way reported seeing a man with a flashlight on an unoccupied property claiming to be looking for a dog. Two officers checked the area with a negative find. 7:56 pm The Upton Police Department reported an erratic operator. Officer Peter Booth followed the vehicle on Route 495 and stated that he did not observe any violations. 5:24 pm A motorist reported that a motor vehicle hit a deer on East Main Street. Officer Matthew McNeil responded and took a report. 5:11 pm A motorist reported that a vehicle went through a red light on West Main Street, almost hitting the caller's vehicle, and continued on Route 495 while driving erratically. The State Police were notified.
Tuesday, December 24, 2013 10:21 pm A caller from New Hampshire requested a well-being check on his twelve year-old son due to a text message that he received. Three officers responded to a residence on Fenton Street and took a report. 8:54 pm A resident of Colonial Avenue reported damage to their mailbox caused by a silver vehicle. Officer Peter Booth responded and checked the area for the vehicle with a negative find. 5:51 pm A walk-in from Clinton Street reported that the mother of his child would not allow his court ordered visitation this evening. Officer Peter Booth spoke with the individual and took a report. 5:36 pm A caller reported that a motor vehicle hit a deer on East Main Street causing the airbag to deploy. Two officers responded and advised that the deer was deceased. 5:32 pm A motorist reported that the vehicle in front of her was operating erratically on Hayden Rowe Street. Officer Peter Booth stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator. 4:48 pm A caller reported that a black sedan was speeding, making unsafe lane changes, passing cars in a “no passing” zone and tailgating vehicles on Main Street. Two officers responded and spoke with the operator who stated that he would be be more careful. 3:23 am A resident reported that his son had hit a tree on Saddle Hill Road and then walked home. Two officers responded and subsequently issued a criminal application to the operator for negligent operation, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding and marked lanes. |

In With the New December 27, 2013 — As part of the study of the School Street/West Main Street intersection, the engineers discovered a way to move traffic more quickly through the next intersection, too. Above, facing east, eastbound West Main Street traffic can now use the right lane, too, to proceed through the intersection and merge with though-traffic, or turn onto an I-495 ramp. The workmen above just need to blackout the "only" and right-turn arrow in the right lane to complete the job. As for the School Street/West Main Street traffic signals that were recently installed, they will be turned on some time today. |

"It Was Meant to be" December 24, 2013 — The loving community at
Golden Pond Assisted Living Facility saw months of hoping worth
the wait as the statue of the Virgin Mary, refinished and
repainted, was unveiled in the Chapel yesterday morning in
front of a group of standing-room-only believers. "Rita Kozel [photo, left] has donated her time to restore Mary," she said. Rita heard about the plight from resident Bill Wood [right]. A few people attending felt the unearthing of Mary, and the timing of the completion of the restoration so near Christmas, are miraculous. Ms. Kozel said, "People all over the world throw dirt on her," a metaphor for her circumstance and the ridicule Roman Catholics endure as a result of their beliefs. "They say she doesn't matter." She said this triumph shows she does matter. "The Chapel is a place of reflection and worship for all," said Ms. Tavares. "The Chapel is growing in all faiths," she said, as a Star of David awaited its turn as the center of beliefs. |

Above, Monday afternoon a few customers-turned-friends (and more off-camera) listen as Mary Murphy reads a tribute to the couple that she wrote in their honor. Officer Thomas Griffin responded and assisted the operator. 1:16 pm The Ashland Police Department requested assistance for a person waving a knife on Voyagers Lane. Officer Stephen Buckley responded to assist. 11:17 am A Winter Street resident reported a dead deer in his front yard. The Animal Control Officer was notified. 10:36 am There were multiple calls regarding a two car motor vehicle accident with personal injury on East Main Street. Two officers responded to assist.

Officer Aaron O'Neil responded and checked the area with a negative find. 6:04 pm A 911 caller reported that someone had hit his car with a snowball while he was driving on Wood Street. Officer John Moran checked the area but was unable to locate any suspects. 1:00 pm Two officers responded to Granite Street and spoke with two hunters who were chasing a deer that had been shot. 12:30 am Sgt. Michael Sutton stopped a motor vehicle on Main Street and subsequently arrested a 22 year-old male from Framingham and charged him with Larceny Under $250, Resisting Arrest, Passing Violation, Speeding, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Refusing to Produce License/Registration/Plates.
