Two Car Accident Causes
Jam July 22, 2013 — A two-car accident on Route 495 northbound just before 1:00 pm this afternoon by virtue of its nature shut down the highway while the people were extricated from being entrapped. Three people, two females and one male, were transported to UMass Medical Trauma Center. Hopkinton Ambulance transported two patients, and Westborough transported one. A Little to the Left July 21, 2013 — This handsome fellow clasps the branch of a shrub on the shore of Little Pond on the southern end of Lake Whitehall today. They use their legs like clamps when not in motion, because they have no real feet to support standing. When they fly, they are either attempting to mate or eat. The spiny hairs on the interior of its legs are brought close together to snare smaller insects as in a net when it hunts. |

Wall of Rain July 21, 2013 — A veritable wall of rain came from the hills to the west of Hopkinton Reservoir yesterday afternoon and burst over the surface while people were scurrying to shelter. In the photo above, the edge of the most intense part of the deluge can be hitting the surface. The two people caught in the middle of it, above, can be seen in the photo below, the farthest away from the camera, nearest the island on the left.

A Time to Reap July 21, 2013 — A group of 15 students from St. John's Middle School Youth Group spent July 9-10-11 on 3 Days of Service. This group of Middle School students along with a group of 5 adults spent time at The Community Harvest Farm in Grafton. At the farm they learned how the farm helps with the growing number of people who need assistance for their daily meals. They assisted in picking over 7,000 pounds of vegetables in the 2 days they spent there. The farm which is located in North Grafton also accepts drop in volunteers all summer long Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 12 Noon. Any interested families or students looking for service hours can just drop in and also see first hand what an amazing place this is! Foxwoods Wastewater Treatment Plan Misleading Milford Residents
Hopkinton, MA –
July 20, 2013 — At its meeting Wednesday evening,
Foxwoods Massachusetts (FCX Massachusetts, LLC)
continued its sales pitch in spite of the facts.
The Foxwoods development team stated the Milford Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) is currently permitted to treat 12,000,000 gallons of wastewater per day. The peer review engineers in attendance then took the floor, offering conflicting information.
The end result is the Milford WWTP is already at its official permitted capacity. The Plant is only authorized to treat 4,300,000 gpd. To go beyond this limit would require a massive overhaul of the entire sewer system infrastructure, disrupting the Town of Milford for years. Moreover, the Massachusetts DEP, the United States EPA and numerous other regulatory authorities would need to approve any changes to the Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan for Milford, further delaying the development of the casino.
MWACC Chairman Brian Herr (file photo) was in attendance and witnessed the debate amongst the engineers. “I was shocked at the blatant disregard of the facts by the Foxwoods team. As an engineer myself, the facts are the facts. Why Foxwoods would spin the numbers to this degree is beyond logic and highly suspect.”
Herr concluded “The residents of Milford deserve better. Foxwoods should give them the facts and let them make their decision based on the actual merits of the proposal. Medfield Tournament Champs! July 20, 2013 — Congratulations to the Hopkinton 12U Summer Softball team for winning the Medfield Tournament, played on July 12-14. The Hillers went unbeaten in the tournament outscoring their six opponents by a combined margin of 74-15. They faced a strong Franklin Fusion team in the championship game, breaking a 4-4 tie in the top of the 6th with a clutch 3-run homer by Kristina Weldon. Hopkinton turned a double play to end the game in the bottom of the 6th for the 7-5 victory and the championship. Eliza Westbury and Allison Leeret each pitched 3 strong innings, and the Hiller defense was stellar all game and weekend long. Sean Murphy Releases Photos without AuthorizationJuly 19, 2013 — A State Police photographer, Sgt. Sean Murphy, who shadowed fellow law enforcement officers during the manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and documented events photographically, unilaterally released State Police photos of the alleged Boston Marathon bomber's capture in response to a glamorous photo of him on the cover or Rolling Stone magazine.

Sgt. Murphy said in part, “Photography is very simple, it’s very basic. It brings us back to the cave. An image like this on the cover of Rolling Stone, we see it instantly as being wrong. What Rolling Stone did was wrong. This guy is evil. This is the real Boston bomber. Last night, a spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police, David Procopio, released the following statement:
"Today's dissemination to Boston Magazine of photographs of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev and police activity related to his capture was not authorized by the Massachusetts State Police. The department will not release the photographs to media outlets. The State Police will have no further comment on this matter tonight."

Six Alarms in Uxbridge July 18, 2013 — A fire on South Main Street in Uxbridge grew to six alarms on an oppressively hot afternoon today. Companies from all surrounding towns, as well as towns as far away as Webster and Sturbridge, contributed equipment and manpower to battle the blaze from all sides and provide relief to fellow firefighters. The three-story mixed use building, where a bridal boutique and sign shop populated the first floor, had residences on the second and third floors. The fire occurred across from Town Hall. Channel 7 reported that workers there helped the owner of the bridal boutique remove gowns, many that had been ordered for brides-to-be. The building was across the train tracks and the Mumford River from another famous conflagration that consumed the Bernat Mills in 2007. At 4:00 pm, there were no injuries reported of evacuees or firefighters, but it appeared at least two firefighters got some treatment by paramedics. Channel 4 has reported that the building will be demolished. Hopkinton Fire Department responded to calls for mutual aid by stationing equipment in Upton after that town sent aid to the fire. Incident Log Tuesday, July 16, 2013 10:07 pm A motorist reported to a detail officer an erratic operator on Cedar Street. Officer Peter Booth checked the area to the town line with a negative find. 7:47 pm A resident of Hayden Rowe Street spoke with Officer William Burchard regarding larceny. 7:01 pm A 911 caller from Hayden Rowe Street reported that his brother just threatened to pull a knife on his mother and himself. Three officers responded and subsequently arrested an 18 year old male from Hopkinton and charged him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. 6:21 pm A caller reported a suspicious motor vehicle in the State Park. The Ashland Police Department were advised. 5:15 pm A Blueberry Lane resident reported that her mailbox was ripped off of its post. Officer William Burchard viewed the damage and took a report. 5:08 pm A caller from Wilson Street reported that someone had keyed her car. Officer Peter Booth responded and took a report. 3:17 pm A motorist reported that a trash truck was hung up on a large branch on Montana Road. Officer Peter Booth responded and advised the DPW to remove the branch. 2:04 pm Officer David Shane responded to South Street to take a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident. 11:37 am There was a report of a man sitting in a vehicle on South Street in an odd spot near a day care. Officer David Shane responded and spoke with the operator who was making phone calls in a shady spot.
9:55 am A
resident of Blueberry Lane reported vandalism to her
mailbox. Officer Philip Powers responded and advised
that two mailboxes were damaged. Monday, July 15, 2013 8:42 pm A walk-in from a South Street business spoke with Sgt. Michael Sutton regarding his wallet being stolen from his desk and illegal activity on his credit cards. 8:32 pm A caller from Hayden Rowe Street reported a verbal argument between a father and son. Two officers responded and subsequently arrested a 31 year old male from Hopkinton and charged him with Larceny Over $250. 1:32 pm An Ash Street resident reported a suspicious female in her back yard with a large nap sack who left in a vehicle with CT plates. Officer Philip Powers responded and located the individual who was a registered solicitor. 12:35 am A resident of Oakhurst Road reported fireworks being set off. Two officers responded and spoke with the individuals involved. |
