Margaret M. "Peg" (McMaster) Zilembo, 83

Hopkinton: Margaret M. "Peg" (McMaster) Zilembo,83, of Hopkinton formerly of Marlborough died Thursday (Oec.27,2012) at Milford Hospital after a short illness.

She leaves her husband of 66 years Michael J. Zilembo and two daughters Susan M. Lindberg and Dale A. Zilembo both of Hopkinton. Also leaves a grandson Sean M. Lindberg of San Diego, CA. and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Richard G. McMaster,Jr.

She was born in Marlborough daughter of the late Richard G. and Catherine (Shortsleeve) McMaster and has lived in Hopkinton for the past 34 years. Mrs. Zilembo worked at Raytheon in Waltham for over 37 years before retiring in 1995. She also worked at the former Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Marlborough and for the Town of Hopkinton and served as Trustee for the Apple Tree Hill Condo Association in Hopkinton. She also enjoyed working at the polls at election time in Hopkinton.

She loved music, reading, animals (especially her dog Alex). gardening movies, the mountains, the ocean and had a great love of her country. She also enjoyed the Red Sox and watching dancing and ice skating.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and remem­bered by all fiS a very kind,giving,lovine person who used her Rreat sense of humor to brighten the lives of everyone who knew her.

Funeral will be held Thursday Jan.3,2013) at 10 A.M. from the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough with a Mass at 11 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough.

Eloise M. Seely, 87

HOPKINTON - Eloise M. Seely, 87, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 with family by her side in Milford, MA. She was the widow of Vernon G. Seely who died in October 1998. Born in Syracuse, OH, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen (Crooks) Edwards.

She is survived by her sons Dennis of Uxbridge and John of Harwich; and her daughters Tamara Dafiotis of Hopkinton and Brigetta Whalen of Grafton, NH. She also leaves her sisters Elma Weese and Emmogene Hamilton and her brother Emmett Edwards, all of Ohio, as well as 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter Candace, who died in February 2004. Eloise loved taking care of and spending time with her family, as well as sewing, baking and gardening.

Calling hours will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2012 in the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street, Hopkinton, MA. A funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m.

Framingham Pediatric Dentist Arraigned on Child Pornography Possession Charges

            FRAMINGHAM – A pediatric dentist with an office in Framingham was arraigned today on charges of possession of child pornography for images allegedly found on his laptop computer, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.

             Melvin A. Ehrlich, 52, of Millis, was arraigned today in Framingham District Court on charges of possession of child pornography (three counts) and distribution of child pornography (two counts).  The Commonwealth requested that the defendant be held on $25,000 cash bail with the following conditions: commit no crimes, have no contact with children under 18, no unsupervised contact with his own child, no employment or volunteer work with children under 18, no computer or Internet use, and wear a GPS monitor and check in with probation.  Framingham District Court Judge Robert Greco released the defendant on $10,000 cash bail with conditions to commit no new crimes and no use of computer except at place of business for work-related purposes only.

             The defendant’s next court date is February 11 for a pre-trial conference.

             “These are disturbing allegations where the defendant, who works with children of all ages on a daily basis, was downloading and distributing commercially-traded child pornography images,” District Attorney Leone said.  “I commend the work of multiple law enforcement agencies, including Framingham Police, State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service for the collaborative and thorough investigation to bring these charges forward. Children are our most vulnerable victims and we will continue to prosecute to the fullest extent those who exploit them.”

            According to authorities, Ehrlich sent his laptop computer to a service provider for maintenance work to remove a reported virus from the computer.  While working on Ehrlich’s laptop, the service provider observed downloaded images of child pornography.  The service provider called Framingham Police, who immediately launched an investigation.

            An extensive forensic investigation was conducted and revealed that Ehrlich used this laptop computer under various user names to download and distribute commercially traded child pornography images.  The data recovered was sent to and confirmed to be commercially traded child pornography by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

            Ehrlich is a pediatric dentist who operates a business called Wee Care for Kids in Framingham.  While the case remains under development and investigation, there is currently no evidence that presently leads law enforcement to believe that Ehrlich physically abused any children or manufactured any images of child pornography.

             These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

             The case is being investigated by Framingham Police, State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

             The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Snook , working with the Middlesex District Attorney's Office Child Abuse Unit and Cyber Enforcement Unit.

HCA to Offer Expanded Roster of Winter Classes

Paul M. Phipps, 91

Hopkinton – Paul M. Phipps, 91, a lifelong Hopkinton resident, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Ruth (Berry) Phipps, to whom he was married for 69 years. He was the son of the late Arthur and Minnie (Metivier) Phipps.

He was a 1939 graduate of Hopkinton high school and a 1943 graduate of The College of the Holy Cross. He earned his masters degree from Babson Institute in 1948. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a first lieutenant from 1942 to 1947, was an Iwo Jima survivor, and retired as a captain. He was the founder and owner of Paul M. Phipps Insurance Agency, Inc. where he worked from 1950 until his retirement in 1995.

An avid sports advocate, Paul was an original organizer of Hopkinton Little League in 1954 and coached the Tigers in that league for 14 years. In 1996, he was inducted into the Hopkinton High School Athletic Hall of Fame, class of 1939, after earning 15 varsity letters in baseball, football and basketball. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton for 35 years, where he recorded his second hole-in-one at age 82. He served on its board of directors for 11 years and was tournament chairman for 10 years. He also served on the Boston Athletic Association’s Board of Governors for several years.

He was president of the Independent Insurance Agents of New England in 1975 and also served as its membership chairman and on its bylaws committee. He was president and director of the South Middlesex Agents Assoc. for several years. He also served as a corporate trustee on the investment committee of the Holliston/Hopkinton Savings Bank/Bank for Savings of Malden for 32 years.

Extremely active in Hopkinton, Paul founded and organized the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce and served as its chairman for three years. In 1985, he was voted Hopkinton Man of the Year by that organization, for his lifelong support of community activities. He was a former commander of the Daniel L. McDonough American Legion Post #202 of Hopkinton and was organizer and chairman of H.I.P. (Hopkinton Interested People) for two years in the 1970’s. He was a charter member and president of the Hopkinton Boosters club, a charter member of the Hopkinton scholarship committee, and a member of the Hopkinton Education Foundation. He was also a charter member, president, and secretary for the Hopkinton Kiwanis Club, where he was a member for 25 years. He wrote weekly newsletters for that club for 10 years.

Paul served as local chairman for the American Cancer Society for five years, the March of Dimes for three years, the Heart Fund Community Fund for two years and on the Boy Scouts Fund Drive and Troop Committee for two years. Active in his church, he was a member of St. John’s parish, where he served on the finance committee for five years and was building fund campaign chairman during the planning of the new parish center.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Robert and wife Nancy of Sutton and Richard of Levittown, NY. He also leaves six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Ronald, who died in 1974, his brothers Laurence and Kenneth Phipps and Bernard Cousins, and his sister Irene Macmillan.

The funeral will be held Saturday, December 29 at 9:00 a.m. from the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street, Hopkinton, MA A funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, December 28 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Paul’s family will welcome the community to St. John’s parish hall following internment.
