Counterfeit items seized at Urban/Suburban
(Milford, MA.) On Wednesday June 2, 2010 at approximately 12:15 pm Milford Police Detectives, accompanied by representatives from the Movie, Song Recording and Clothing Industries, executed a search warrant at the Urban/Suburban Store located at 89 Main Street. The warrant was obtained earlier in the day from the Milford District Court allowing police to search for counterfeit, pirated and knockoff items for sale. As a result of the search Milford Police seized over 727 items of illegal items which included clothes, footwear, handbags, movies and music.
The clerk on duty was named Anel Brkic age 19 of 6 Shadowbrook Lane Milford, MA was arrested on an out of town warrant unrelated to the search. (Dartmouth, MA for possession of Class D Substance, Marijuana) He was booked and brought to the Milford District Court.
After completion of the search at 89 Main Street, the owner/operator of the store named Terril Coley age 45 of 28 Bowdoin Drive Milford, MA voluntarily came to the police station and cooperated by speaking with investigators. He admitted to knowing the items he was selling were counterfeit. Terril Coley was arrested after questioning and charged with the following:
1. Counterfeit Mark, Distribute CH 266 SEC 147 2. Recording w/out MFR Name/Sell/Rent CH 266 SEC 143C
The subject was released on bail and scheduled for arraignment at the Milford District Court. |

Hopkinton Education Foundation Awards Almost $90,000
HOPKINTON, Mass – June 2, 2010 – The Hopkinton Education Foundation announces the awarding of seventeen grants to Hopkinton Public Schools totaling almost $90,000. In making the awards, Kim Pucci, Education Foundation President said, “This year’s grant awards cover a broad educational spectrum and reflect the Foundation’s mission of encouraging innovation that fosters students’ educational success and forms the foundation for their lifelong learning.”

The Education Foundation awarded the Stephen Gray Memorial Grant (awarded each year for the most innovative program) to Diane Norby, Middle School Librarian, for her application entitled Transforming the Middle School Library into a Learning Commons. According to Norby, “This project will transform both the physical space in the library as well as add tools to enable students to experience learning within a 21st century environment. The learning commons concept of library design is at the forefront of academic innovation, and it is viewed as essential in order to provide students with the infrastructure necessary for the newest educational models to be completely implemented. It is a human-centered design based on the principles that today's students learn by collaborating and working cooperatively.” |

Senior Moments Clowning Around With Fashion

June 2, 2010 — And the Oscars go to…! Is it true? Have the Academy Awards come to Hopkinton? Not yet, but the Oscars for the Rummage Sale Fashion Show have! The theme for this 2nd annual show was “Trash and Treasures,” based on the type of clothing and accessories the models had bought at the rummage sale. This show tied into the rummage sale that had recently been held at the center. Anyone could participate, as long as they modeled something they bought at the sale. The criterion for this show was just having a lot of laughs, fun AND free strawberry shortcake for everybody.
For his second year, the Master of Ceremony for this great event was Dave Dobson, who sported an Ace of Spades costume and black tights. Contestants wore outfits that ranged from elegant to quite humorous!
Judi Allessio modeled her blue capris from “Talbots,” white sandals and pretty red sweater—perfect outfit for the summer.
Mary McLeod’s outfit was a black and white silk shirt that was quite elegant. An added touch was the lovely red rose she was carrying.
Sheila Currie wore a casual vest, blouse and pair of capris that were all purchased at bargain prices from the rummage sale.
The Happy Clown flip flopped up to the stage with her huge red clown shoes! It was hard to tell that it was Joyce Plucker who was under those large glasses, red nose, wig and clown outfit!

Congratulations Hopkinton Editor:
Congratulations Hopkinton! Governor Deval Patrick recently recognized Hopkinton as receiving one of the state’s coveted title as a “Green Community” enabling the town to receive future energy efficiency grants from an annual fund from the state.
Receiving this title was no easy feat! Thank you to the Sustainable Green Committee for organizing the steps and producing the documents required for the application for the designation! A big thank you to the department heads and volunteers who did their jobs well to highlight and push this opportunity to the forefront of so many issues facing the town. Also, without the support of the community who came out to vote for the two items on the town warrant required for this designation, Hopkinton would not have made the short list of 35 towns in Massachusetts.
With $8.1 million from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, communities across the state will be required to show energy efficiency projects in detailed reports to be submitted shortly, to be considered for a portion of those funds. Fortunately, Hopkinton has much of that research completed by third party vendors because of the town’s focus on energy efficiency as noticed by Gov. Patrick as he toured the solar panel topped municipal buildings here.
Congratulations Hopkinton! Not only is there pride in being a community member of a forward thinking town, we have received the accolades from our State Rep. Carolyn Dykema and Governor Patrick as well! Good luck in the next steps as a “Green Community.”

TORAH EXPLORERS SUMMER PROGRAM OPEN HOUSE AT TEMPLE BETH TORAH
HOLLISTON, Mass. (May, 2010) – Temple
Beth Torah (2162 Washington Street, Holliston) will be holding an open
house on
Torah Explorers offers one class for 2-3 year olds and one for 4-5 year olds; projects and activities are tailored to the children’s ages and abilities. Both classes will meet 9:00 am to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the months of July and August. The preschool class also has extended day available until 2:00 pm. The program’s flex option allows parents to sign up for just those class days they want, making it easy to work around vacation and other schedules. Spots are still available for almost all class days this summer.
Torah Explorers is structured around a cohesive summer-long theme that is brought to life through songs, stories, games, arts and crafts, Hebrew vocabulary, pretend play and more. The theme for summer of 2010 is “Jews Around the World”. Teachers will take the children on an exploration of 18 countries, allowing them to experience the different foods, Jewish traditions and culture in each. Combined with the learning component are many opportunities for indoor and outdoor play, making new friends, and interacting in a group dynamic. Temple membership is NOT required to participate and all interested families are encouraged to apply.

25, 2010, Worcester, MA---Melissa A. Gleick, Esquire, daughter of
Jeffrey Mark Durand of Hopkinton, MA, has been appointed associate at
Estate Preservation Law Offices located in Worcester, MA.

find it hard asking someone to make a donation. I guess we all do. But,
today I am writing to you about a cause that is important to me
and a cause I know you will want to support. I have decided to take
steps in the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS) by joining the
2010 Bike MS Ride, for the second year in a row, and I am

- May 26, 2010 — Brian J. Herr, candidate for Congress in the
Massachusetts Third Congressional District, submitted 3,180 certified
signatures to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, qualifying him for the
ballot.

June 14 and Wed, June 16 from 9:00-10:00 am to allow young families in
the community to experience their Torah Explorers summer program. The
open house will provide parents and children the opportunity to meet
some of the program’s staff, see the facilities, and participate in some
of the program’s activities first hand.
