Regional Crime Wilmington Man Arrested for Allegedly Embezzling Millions From Former Client Victim is well known entertainer
UPDATE: McCauley was arraigned today, December 31, 2008, in Woburn District Court where he entered a plea of not guilty and was ordered held on $3 million cash bail. He is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on January 15, 2009.
Approximately two weeks ago, the Attorney General’s Office began an investigation after the matter had been referred by McCauley’s former client and his lawyer. McCauley was the business manager for his former client from the early 1990’s until early December 2008. As business manager, McCauley was responsible for the management of his client’s financial affairs, including the receipt and payment of bills; the receipt, deposit, and management of the client’s income and revenue from various business ventures in which his former client controlled. Authorities allege that between July 2007 through December of 2008, McCauley stole millions of dollars from his client’s business accounts by transferring those funds to his own personal accounts, and in one instance, forging a three million dollar check written from his client’s account to himself. Authorities allege that McCauley used this money for his own personal use. Authorities also allege that McCauley made the transfers without the knowledge or consent of his client. The investigation into McCauley’s alleged activities is ongoing. McCauley was arrested this afternoon. He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning in Woburn District Court. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Richard Grundy, Chief of Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Criminal Bureau and Assistant Attorney General Marc Jones, of Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Corruption and Fraud Division, and was investigated by the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Attorney General’s Office. ~ AG's Office

Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police and MADD Urge Safe New Year’s Driving 7% increase in OUI arrests
The event was part of the Commonwealth’s “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest” Mobilization, which began Dec. 12 and runs through Jan. 4. EOPSS is providing up to $700,000 in federal grant funds during the mobilization for extra traffic enforcement by the Massachusetts State Police and 216 local law enforcement agencies, and a coordinated public education campaign. State Police alone are rolling an additional 410 patrols, above and beyond their regular patrols.
At the event, State Police announced that for the fourth straight year, the number of statewide drunk driving arrests made by troopers has increased. As of Dec. 20, State Police had made 5,004 OUI arrests in 2008, up 7 percent over the total made by the same point in 2007 and surpassing the 4,879 arrests made during all of last year. In 2006, troopers arrested 3,860 drunk drivers, up from 2,869 in 2005. The increased arrest totals have corresponded with a lower amount of crashes involving drunk drivers. This year, through Dec. 20, State Police had responded to 584 OUI crashes, down 6 percent from the 618 at that time last year.
“We are a day away from the New Year’s Eve holiday and all the festivities that come with it,” said Colonel Mark. F. Delaney, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police. “These celebrations carry with them numerous opportunities to consume alcohol. We want people to have fun ringing in the new year, but we want them to do so smartly and safely. And if they do not, they should know that it is a priority of the State Police to find them and take them off the road.”

The Hopkinton Police Department Receives Underage Alcohol Enforcement Award

This program will help us in our efforts to reduce instances of impaired driving by our community’s underage population.”
While the Town of Hopkinton has not suffered any alcohol related motor vehicle fatalities involving drivers under the age of 21 in the past 3 years, the problem is still a significant concern.
Results reported in the 2006 MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey indicate that “alcohol remains the substance of choice among adolescents”.
Research reveals that, according to the Fatality Reporting Analysis System (FARS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among young drivers between ages 15 and 20. Additionally, from 2003 to 2005, nationwide, approximately 34% of 16-20 year-old drivers killed in motor vehicle crashes had been drinking.

The Town Manager of Hopkinton reports to a 5 member Board of Selectmen, and serves as the chief administrative officer responsible for the day to day operations of Town government and related executive functions including fiscal management, capital planning, labor relations, collective bargaining, public construction / procurement and development of a $60 million dollar annual operating budget. “Taps” traditionally serves two important purposes. At military outposts around the world it is played in the evening to signal the time for quiet, rest and reflection after a day of duty. It is also mandated by the Department of Defense to be sounded live by a bugler, if possible, at the funeral of each and every American veteran as a final tribute to that individual veteran’s honorable time of service to his or her country. An average of over 1,600 American veterans are laid to rest each day.
Hopkinton has held this ceremony, on the first Sunday of each month, since it was initiated in March 2004 by the national non-profit organization Bugles Across America. 2008 — A tip from a HopNews' Town Talk post led to the discovery that someone
did in fact win $10
Patrons identified Richard Diatalevi, a retired Framingham Firefighter, as the prize winner, and described him arriving in a stretch limo on Friday evening with family members, and setting up everybody at the bar for fours hours. HopNews arrived in time to speak with several patrons, who confirmed the information. Two patrons agreed to speak on camera, above. |

local ties who was also his client. Darryl McCauley, age 43, is charged
with Larceny over $250 (2 counts), Forgery, and Larceny by Continuous
Scheme. McCauley was arrested this evening by Massachusetts State
Police assigned to the Attorney General’s Office at his residence
without incident. He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning in
Woburn District Court.

MA - December 29, 2008 — The Hopkinton Police Department was awarded
$4795.04 in grant
funding as part of the 2009 Underage Alcohol Enforcement Grant Program
from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). This
program provides overtime funds for enforcement of underage alcohol laws
through activities such as compliance checks, reverse stings, party
patrols, surveillance patrols, and cops in shops. The EOPSS awarded 94
of these grants totaling over $600,000.

2009 as we join thousands of communities across America for a
remembrance ceremony at the Senior Center in Hopkinton,
Massachusetts. The Committee is hosting a “Sunday Taps Vigil” starting
at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will consist of a short tribute to American
soldiers, veterans and their families and is expected to last 15
