Dear Hopkinton Residents,
We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support and commitment you have shown to our community. With your help, we successfully defeated Marguerite Construction’s proposal to rezone land at South and Hayward Street from residential to commercial at the recent Town Meeting.
As the Town Moderator put it, “I don’t know if unanimous opposition is a thing — but we just proved it is.”
Your dedication to preserving the character of our neighborhood, protecting Lake Maspenock and the community from pollution and stormwater runoff, and ensuring the safety of our children and residents played a vital role in achieving this victory.
By uniting and standing up to a corporation, we have demonstrated the power of our collective voices and the impact we can have when we work together for the betterment of our town. The courage and determination to forge a better path for our families and our community is truly inspiring.
We want to thank you once again for your support and for choosing a brighter future for our town and our neighbors. We feel honored to be part of such a strong and committed community.
– Vikasith Pratty, Rustem Rafikov, and Lake Maspenock Neighborhood
While I’m glad this zoning was stopped it was very disappointing that the group of proponents got up and walked out of town meeting as soon as their article was finished.
With all due respect, shaming people for not being able to sit in a town meeting all night long is way worse than getting up quietly and respectfully after the vote on an issue central to our lives. I had children at home waiting for me to return and help them with homework and get them to bed. Everyone leads busy lives, and suggesting that they did poorly, without knowing what challenges they went through to get to the meeting, is exactly what is wrong with society. Stop gatekeeping and shaming. Mind your own business Me.
