Grant enables Hopkinton FD to install Smoke Alarms for Free

Published on

The Hopkinton Fire Department, in collaboration with a generous grant awarded by the insurance company FM Global, has announced that it will offer free installation of smoke alarms to Hopkinton residents in need.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. If there is a fire in a home, smoke spreads fast and smoke alarms provide residents with time to escape.

Last Easter, two Hopkinton residents perished as a result of a fire in a home without functioning smoke alarms.

The installation program targets those who are most vulnerable to fire deaths including older adults, families with children, residents with disabilities, veterans and homes with no working smoke alarms. While onsite, the team will also perform a home safety inspection to educate residents on creating a home fire escape plan.

To take advantage of this opportunity please call Hopkinton FD’s Fire Prevention Bureau at (508) 497-2323 ext. 4. Supply is limited and alarms will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
