Both Hopkinton Soccer Teams in Final Four

Published on

Local historians are struggling to remember when two Hopkinton Hillers teams of the same sport both reached the state semifinals.

On Tuesday, November 14, the Hopkinton Girls Varsity Soccer team will meet perennial powerhouse Bishop Feehan, in a rematch of last year’s semifinals, where Hopkinton was defeated 2-0. The game will be held at Boston College High in Dorchester.

Bishop Feehan finished the 2023 regular season 16-0-1, and vanquished Beverly, Central Catholic and Acton-Boxborough to reach the semifinals. The Hopkinton girls, who finished 17-0-1, rolled through the tournament, knocking off Plymouth North, Arlington and Franklin.

This matchup has been expected. In fact, Senior Captain Brooke Birtwistle made the call back on September 1 at HGVS Media Day.

Boys meet up with Wakefield

The Hopkinton Boys Varsity soccer team has been equally impressive this season. Entering the tournament as the #8 seed with a 12-2-4 record, they beat Duxbury, North Attleborough and top seeded Bedford to reach the semifinals. On Wednesday, November 15 at 4:00 PM they will play #5 Wakefield Memorial. Per MIAA rules, all tournament games from the semifinals on must be held in a neutral location, yet this game will be held at Woburn Memorial High, just ten minutes away from Wakefield. Several HBVS parents have expressed consternation over the MIAA’s decision. Nonetheless, for the second year in a row, the Hiller boys look to punch their ticket to the state finals, and no doubt will bring a large supporters section along.

This game will be streamed live either on HCAM-TV or NFHS.

  1. Both teams reached the semi-finals last year. The boys went onto the finals where they lost 3-2 after being up 2-1 with less than 3 minutes to go. In terms of the location, a number of years ago the boys played Canton in a semi-final game at Canton – so while it is close – it isn’t at the other teams school. Wakefield did play at Woburn this year however
