Boston- Representative James Arena-DeRosa of the 8th Middlesex District (which includes Hopkinton) nominated Marine Corps veteran Michael Whalen for the second annual Military Appreciation Day at the State House.
This event celebrates, honors, and recognizes the sacrifices and contributions of our military community in Massachusetts. A Marine Corps Veteran, Michael Whalen, has given a lifetime of service to the Town of Hopkinton and fellow veterans.
Mike has served as the Adjutant for the Hopkinton American Legion. He also works with local media and the Hopkinton Historical Society to ensure that we continue to share the stories of our veterans and their service.
Mike continues to lead a monthly Veterans breakfast in Hopkinton at the Senior Center to keep local veterans connected. He also plays a lead role in annual Veterans Day and Memorial Day celebrations. In addition, he serves on the committee that cares for veterans’ graves.
He was recently asked to serve on a statewide committee to help reintegrate veterans through their transition back into civil society. Representative Arena-DeRosa shared, “It was my honor to nominate Michael Whalen for this well-deserved award, and a pleasure to welcome Mike and his daughter Suzy to the statehood today for the celebration with the Governor and Lt. Governor”.
Editor’s note: Congratulations to Mike Whalen on this richly deserved recognition, and thank you for everything you do for Hopkinton’s veterans and our community. Thanks also to Representative James Arena-DeRosa for nominating one of our town’s finest.
